All New Square Foot Gardening by Mell Baartholomew

I just wanted to mention this in case there are any here that are into it. The old book about square foot gardening was a run away best seller. The new idea uses a mixture of vermiculite, compost and peat moss. And they figure it's just necessarily to have six inches. You have no weeds, no need for fertilizer. Most all nursery stock is grown in prepareed soil. I've made mine up and am about ready to plant here in Virginia perhaps a little late. You can gougle the site and the entire book is on line. I talked to a man whose father is in a wheel chair and he wanted to make a raised garden. This would be perfect.- Rod

I just picked up this book at the library this week and am on page 29 where it reads about planting problems. I've had gardens before but my ground here is very rock infested so square foot type sounds interesting. I do tomatoes in containers and like the control it gives. The mixture you mention will be of interest since it will have to be brought in. I'm thinking of removing all veg"n down to the dirt (and rocks) then do the frames and fill on that. But I'm remembering still on page 29 only. Thanks, I'll be watching this spot to see if anything grows. Sid
