Excellent reminder, Bobby!

I can't help but observe that our thoughts are powerful (we, who are made in the image of the Creator-God, who spoke the universe into existance), and that our words and beliefs are powerful.

All the doomsday news is becoming morbid self-fulfilling prophecy...!

As a man thinks in his heart, so is he ... and as we collectively imagine/think, we project and thus "create".

We need to face things as they are, yes, of course -- but to see God's provisional hand in this, too. Rather than imagining this to be His wrath, why not His mercy? Wouldn't mercy seek to dismantle a corrupt system that requires indebtedness/slavery, and the taking of the have-nots so that the haves can have more....? What if God, in his powerfully-loving mercy, isn't letting our corrupt system (to which we've all complied, and have thus enabled) to fall apart, so that we can learn, and perhaps, with His mysterious guidance, create something built more on justice and mercy...?

Just my thoughts...

Shalom, Dena
That is a great perspective, Dena. I like how you can look at a negative situation and imagine a viable positive outcome. That is truly a gift. You could really bless our subscriber by copying your comments and posting them directly on the blog http://freshfruitfromcanaan.blogspot.com/2009/02/controlling-your-d... You've done it again Dena. You have put into words a unique creation of thought, and I wish I could save all of your little bits of wisdom, but my scatter brain system isn't capable of any such feat.

I have been thinking the same as Dena. My heart yells, Jubilee!! I believe that Christian love for neighbor will begin to show in the econonic crisis as we help each other through. Wouldn't it be beautiful to see the farmers Jones give some eggs and honey to Ms. Smith for babysitting their kids? (and yes, the taxes due to Caesar can be paid to Caesar.)
I agree, Nik ... why the doom and gloom? Why do we assume God is against us, rather than training/teaching/guiding us...?

I see this throughout Scripture -- there's God saying He wants to be our husband -- and we say, "no thank-You, You're scary -- we prefer a master -- keep Your distance and give us a nice, safe human-mediator, pretty-please."

I believe that good and evil are caught up in the human heart, but that the evil comes out of lies we believe ... I see Him relentlessly and oh-so-patiently teaching us of His nature, of His plan for us, of His love for us ... coming after His Beloved in a furious pursuit ... we catch a glimpse of that fury and imagine it to be targeted at US, rather than targeted at that which is in us that is harming us ... that which gives rise to harming one another (for we know not what we do).

I see that He is showing us how we're made in His image, with creative ability and a nature made to *love* whomever is in front of us...! I see that love is all-powerful, much more powerful than fear, and able to draw us from lies to truth. And truth, of course, sets us free.

Sure feels like the birthpangs of Jubilee to me...! :)

Shalom, Dena

P.S. And thanks for the suggestion, Bobby - I done went and blathered on the blog....! ;)
