Greetings on the day after Pentecost.
I meet with friends in a restaraunt in Fredericksberg and just talked til it got near dark.
We had planned to listen to old tapes of sermoins but never had time and so listened as we each drove home.
In Jerusalem some 2000 years ago the early church was gathered together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed like tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. all of them were filled with the Holy spirit and were enabled by the Holy Spirit to speak in other languages.
A crowd formed when they heard this sound and were bewildered that they could all understand in their own language! They asked one another what dose this mean? Some however made fun and thought they had too much to drink. Peter stood up and said they are not drunk it is only nine in the morning! It is what the prophet Joel said. God has made Jesus who you crucified both LORD and Messiah.
When the people heard this they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?"
Peter replied "Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the Holy Spirit. Those who accepted his message were baptised and about three thousand were baptised that day. It was a exciting day in the old town that day and continued to be as Paul wanted to get out of Asia some thirty years later and get back to Jerusalem in Acts 20 for the Day of Pentecost.
Pentecost is linked to Passover (Lev 23:5) by being linked to First fruits (Lev 23: 9-14.) First fruits occurs the morrow after the Sabbath after passover and begins the fifty day count to Pentecost sometimes called
Weeks because it is 7 weeks after First fruits.
