Dear friends,
I have pondered this question for many years, and finally got to put my thoughts down. You can read them here: http://noconversion.wordpress.com/2009/11/19/what-is-my-culture-now/

Please feel free to post comments/questions on the blog or here.

Ranjeet, I like that concept...continual conversation (prayer, worship, petition?) as we sojourn along together, He & me, with added rich variety as we meet other sojourners like you along the way. Then we all decide to go down to the catacombs cafe for cup of fellowship at a certain time once per week or every morning, just for everyones' spiritual benefit. Ah, the best of being the local church/body of Christ.

I'll look at the blog idea and see if I can.

Thanks, Phil and Mellanie.
In old English (King James..?) the word "conversation" meant lifestyle. I would use that word when decsribing my "new" life. If you look at it, what is our walk with Jesus most of the times? It is our ongoing conversation with Him.There is no set prayer time - it is ongoing; there is no set worship - it is ongoing..and so on. Of course, the set times are important and I have found them to be immensely valuable too, however they should be sprinkled around our conversation with the Lord and not just only those times.

Phil, would you mind posting your comments also on the blog? I haven't yet figured out how to link my blog so comments here can be posted there too. Facebook has such an application..:-) A side question - is there a SC community on FB?

The response on SC for this post has been very encouraging - and I hope this post gets shared more freely. Also, if you want to read the previous posts and add comments on the blog, please do that too.

Great article Ranjeet!

I am a 'westerner' living - as called by the Lord - in Kenya. The western style of Christianity is so evident around me and sometimes I feel so ashamed of what we have done imposing OUR culture in an African context. We may have taken the gospel as we went all those years ago, but... we also exported religion and our church culture..."Churchianity" as I call it. Everyone is striving to sell and make known their own 'brand' or 'style' and mammon is the common denominator, while the lost perish. I don't even like to call myself a "christian" any longer, but rather a "follower of Jesus Christ". It is about relationship and getting back to a REAL relationship with the Lord and King, Jesus and preaching the gospel by our actions before using words. Refreshing truths from a Hindu perspective! Be blessed.
Andy,
You are so honest in your confession. That's a mark of a lover of Christ. I hope and pray that Christians really start thinking what we truly are.

My next post is about "What is MY Gospel"..that I have been mulling for some time now. Can you share my blog with your network of friends and family? Also, can you please also post your comment on my blog directly?

Appreciate it.

Exactly our thoughts!! Unfortunately, we are surrounded by folks who are still trapped in their religious and cultural traditions and will vehemently defend them! Haven't had much "like-minded" fellowship with other followers of Jesus over the years...still searching where in the world we will "fit in" and be of some use to His kingdom. Recommended reading re.culture vs.following the Lord: "Jesus for President" by Shane Claiborne/Chris Haw (Zondervan)- well researched, we agree with 90% of the material (that's really good coming from some real radicals like us!).
It's interesting to see that usually "foreigners" or those from other backgrounds than Western/American can see more of the problems associated with "Christian culture" and nationalism. (We have German background, but rather refer to being "citizens of heaven" Phlp.3:20)
His servants, hardy & Katrine
