Well, sister Carolyn,
I'm glad you brought that up because scams are a dime a dozen. Even what looks like legitimate sites are not "all that". We have dealt with this problem first hand.
I have no favorites, but "feed the childen" with Larry Jones has been around for over a half century and have never had a moment of scandal. Christ for India is another good one. I met their founder personally and know it's a good place to support.
But I knew this 83 year old preacher in Texas that sent everything he could get his hands on to Africa, and it was all a scam. They sent pictured and everything, but the money never found it's true need. God help the people that are doing this.
But as Carolyn said, be careful about where you send your charity. Third world countries have cyber cafe's and there are people there who have nothing better to do than to find a way to steal your money and identity.

This is America. Land of the Free and the world's most beneficant givers. But, It is not ok to ask people to fund one's vision when they are strangers.

It is ok to share one's vision and in doing so, to allow the God of all creation to stir up the people who read about the vision so they might catch it and then after they "see" it perhaps to fund it.

Anyone who responds to foreign solicitations for funds, when they have no first hand experience wtih that person or group, has spent their funds foolishly and have diverted support from those to whom it should be going. Be wise.

I want to alert friends at SimpleChurch to a new book that is scheduled for release in April, 2010, "Your Church is too small: Why unity in Christ's mission is vital to the future of the Church". The author is good friend John H. Armstrong, director of ACT3 ministries in Wheaton and an adjunct professor at the Billy Graham School of evangelism at Wheaton College. Preliminary information is all I have for now.
