My name is Alan Knox. I'm originally from Alabama, and I've also lived in the Atlanta, Ga area. My family has lived in the Wake Forest, NC area for the last six years. We currently live in Youngsville, NC, just north of Raleigh.

I'm married. My wife and I grew up together in a small town - we met in the fourth grade. We've been married for almost 20 years (this January!). We have two children - a 14 yr old son and an 11 yr old daughter. We also have two dogs, and we keep foster dogs for the local humane society.

I work as a web developer and an adjunct professor of Greek and Computers. I'm a PhD student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. I came to accept a "simple" understanding of the church through my study of Scriputre. My family is part of a "hybrid" church, that includes many aspects of "simple church". I publish a blog at www.alanknox.net.

Hello--my husband and I have just discovered (or been discovered by!) simplechurch.com and we think it may be the answer to our deepest and most fervent prayers. We want to go back to the model of the first-century church and we have had about a zillion false starts. Right now I (Anne) am attending two different churches as the Spirit leads. One has wonderful, mature preaching and teaching, the other has my closest and most trusted believing friends. My husband (Steve) doesn't feel led to go to ANY "church" right now. He is a true student of the Word and a great teacher -- it's what he does in the "world" (8th grade social studies) and he is called upon continually to teach others about the Word when they have questions -- especially our kids and grandkids. God is doing some amazing and supernatural things in our lives -- but our "church situation " is so confused. We would love to be able to share the things shared here on this website -- maybe God is opening a door for us through simplechurch.com. We have an on-fire-for-God son who lives in the Hampton Roads area and we were delighted to find North Carolina believers through that group...we look forward to sharing more with you all. And anybody who brings forth such a wonderful word from the Lord as "God loves you" -- is worth knowing better! God bless you all!
Anne,
Thank you for the kind words about my blog post. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your husband better.

I now realize after a message from Alan that I never did introduce myself...my name is Anne Chick, I live in Jacksonville, NC, 60 miles north of Wilmington and home of Camp Lejeune. My husband Steve has joined simplechurch.com but he hasn't really had time to investigate all the myriad opportunities for blessings, sharing, learning, worshiping here. I am a retired civil servant who worked in IT for the Marine Corps for 27 years. My dream was to serve in the school system so I'm now the financial secretary for Southwest Middle School here in Jax. My "thing" is definitely prayer, especially for other intercessors. Steve and I were fired from church (I kid you not)about two years ago and now I reverberate between the charismatic, multicultural megachurch where I got saved back when it was a storefront, and a teeny tiny Pentecostal Holiness church (average member age around 80) with a really pastoral pastor and wonderful, wonderful, Biblical, DEEP teaching and preaching. Steve doesn't attend church at all but he worships and studies the Word more faithfully than anyone I know! We have four children. The boys are both real God-chasers; my oldest daughter is seeking God but really hasn't come to know Him yet; and the younger daughter is hoping he's not real and looking for HER! We have 12 grandchildren including two worship leaders, one Bible scholar and one missionary (youngest 2, oldest 16). Family is really our church ...and we're exploring what that means. My husband is starving for meaningful relationships with other believing men but for all the reasons you discussed in your blog today, Alan, he hasn't found them yet. We believe simplechurch.com and maybe this particular group are very special gifts from God to us.

God bless you all!
My name is David Davis. My wife and I have lived in Boone, NC for 31 yrs. and 29 years respectively. We have been married for 27 years and have shared the joy of parenting our five children. Two are married and our first two grandchildren (not twins) arrive with the next two months!

I am licensed to teach from K to 8th grade in the public school, have worked there for 8 years and currently have a fifth grade class. I was a teacher and principal in a private Christian school for 17 years before my current position.

We left organized church 11 years ago, when I openly spoke of not believing in a head pastor any more. No one in the group could bring themselves to discuss this idea. I was simply the associate pastor who was hurting. After four months of impasse, we left to enable all to be at peace, if not in reconciliation of thought.

We have a small group with whom we fellowship. Our group is largely only four families though we often have others visit with us. We make the dinner table our meeting place and call ourselves the FAT fellowship--for Family Around the Table. We truly enjoy some FAT times, though we only eat moderately of natural food!!

One other thought but not about me. Alan's blog is one of the best anyone will read!
You are so right about that blog!

Thank you for adding us to your friends group. Hearing about your experiences really gives us hope. Somebody commented about the "comfort and traditionalism" of IC in Eastern NC. We are struggling with that right now. We have had a few friends who seemed to want to form a FAT-type fellowship with us, but it never panned out. One of our former pastors said from the pulpit that his congregation could choose the church or friendship with us. It seems strange to me that such a thing could actually happen but it does -- I suspect we're not the only ones who have been through this! We're delighted to be connected to this group...God has given us this start and He is always about MORE so we look forward to what the MORE will be!
My name is Christy and my husband (Steve) and I, live in Boone, NC. We have the wonderful honor of being in fellowship with David Davis and his family, who has also commented on this thread. We have 2 children, ages 16 and 2.

At this time, we are also spending time in Abingdon, VA while Steve is working on a contract through Barter Theatre as music director. We are enjoying the time that we have to explore this beautiful area and are so thankful to Father for providing us this opportunity.

We have also had the honor of spending time with Alan and his family and have been so blessed by our time with them and look forward to many more times of fellowship.

Thanks Alan, for starting this discussion!
Took me a while to realize the reply to you, Alan, and the open wall for the group were not the same reply spaces.
Hey Ya'll! My wife and I just moved to Hickory, NC this summer from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho (that's up in the northern part of the state). We are here for the sole reason that the Lord told us quite clearly this is where He wanted us. After 14 feet of snow this last year back in Idaho (yes, you read that right) we were tempted to move back to my home on Maui where almost all of my extended family lives; but the Lord had other plans, so here we are in Hickory. We were part of a wonderful home church back in Idaho and are looking forward to either starting or being part of one here in Hickory. If there are any home church people out there in this area, please contact us.

I'm 51 years old, my wife is 44. We are a mixed family and between us we have six kids and four grandkids. Our lives center around our love and obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ. God has given us a very specific message we've been taking around everywhere we go.

Blessings to each and every one of you and greetings from your fellow bondservant here in Hickory.
Our family has been interested in simple church for many years, we just didn’t' realize it. We have been involved with the "Church in the Woods" ministry in Wake county for 6+ years which ministers to the lost and least of these including the homeless, drug dealers, prostitutes, gang members and economically challenged (extremely poor) in Wake county. This ministry took our family outside the walls of corporate church and into relationships with His least of these and closer to Jesus. The blog for Apex, Cary, and Garner homeless and gang members can be read at http://least-of-these.blogspot.com
As for our family, our sons are 19, 19 and 13. Al works as an IT guy for the SECU. We homeschool our youngest son. We have two dogs, Sheba was given to us by a homeless women and the newest member, Solomon, from one of the gang missions. We recognized that we were part of a simple church last year. The Lord has led us away from corporate church this month.

Hi Boyce Family!
You are not a thousand miles away from us here on the beach...I am hopeful we can meet one day soon. What God is doing through you is very, very awesome and such a wonderful testimony and example. I'm going to share this with my son and daughter-in-law who are very much involved in personal "instant-in-season" ministry, although they are still connected to an IC. My daughter-in-law has been following the same type of leading in the Spirit for several years --and, praise God, sharing that servant's heart with my grandchildren. Please keep Steve (my husband) and me in your prayers, that we can be utterly faithful, as you are, to focus in on the voice of the Shepherd and obey on instant! Whatta testimony!! Thank you for sharing it!
Blessings in Messiah,
Anne Chick in Jacksonville (home of Camp Lejeune)
