Simply, the stories i write are meant to be used by God in which ever way He wants to open up closed mindsets in the concept of individuality. We are all individuals, with different stories, with different needs, different dreams...yet God has His purpose for us within those stories, needs and dreams.
A middle class suburban family, in a mindset of being comfortable in their idea of living, going to church, raising children, untl God's purpose for them dramatically alters their very function as a family, from a little boy bearing a gift...and it creates havoc...God's havoc..heartchanging, life changing and His love upon those who He knows need Him desperately.
I am writing this story to show that you dont have to write sex, violence, action, murder and use bad language to create drama in a entertaining story. Every day we have drama...in our lives..in living.. Love and Grace can also be dramatic.
Those christians who ONLY like the Mad Max, Rambo, Star Wars, Mills and Boon, Agatha Christie, Jackie Collins but hate the stories that inspire and touch and warm the heart or Christian testimonial stories of surviving adversity are doing themselves some spiritual damage...by continually reading violence, then aggressiveness will come out of them. The seeds you plant you will sow. it's a biblical principle..and it shows in social attitudes.
I do not want to play a part in these atittudes..so i write about the other perspective...dealing with issues in a Christ-like fashion. ..but does anyone care to know? Not as many as i had hoped..because Hollywood has contaminated the thought.

In the back of Pagan Christianity, there is a list of 61 orthopraxy problems that effect all or part of the modern church. As my current job consists of sitting at a desk and every so often pressing a button, I have lots of time then to read, think and write. I am working on writing a group of 2 minute comments on each of these, with additional 2 minute pieces added on the most important problems (church buildings, paid staff, etc.) My thought is that these would be most applicable to radio, especially programming directed to young adults. Just as in the world, the older we are, generally, the less flexible we are, both in mind and spirit. About a week ago, I posted a discussion on this idea on the Hampton Roads site, but there has been no response as of a few minutes ago.
Part of this idea is that many more people, among believers in Jesus just as much as in the world, are geared toward short attention span pieces. I may not agree with it, but disagreeing in a corner by oneself doesn't accomplish anything. Specifically, as I see and hear the "Christian media", I would not know that HC/SC even exists. The only reason I even found out was that last year, I had a job that was all days Saturday and Sunday, with free time Monday through Friday. I was looking for a place to plug into, and couldn't find one. At least where I live, there isn't among all the IC's, even though our society has moved into 24/7 mode in the business community quite a while ago.
Last thing I wrote (today) was another re-write - at my publisher's request - of the back cover blurb for my newest book, "how i got to be fifty and other atrocities: a baby boomer reflects on the boom and other splashes of everyday life."
Why does trying to synthesize 165 pages of text into a brilliant, witty, captivating 150-word "blurb" feel like Chinese water torture?
At this time, I am working to break down the 61 points of incorrect orthopraxy that Viola & Barna discuss in Pagan Christianity into a series of two minutes. At this time, I see these being prepared into a series of radio programs for the Christian radio station in my area that aims at the 14-35 demographic. This specific station's cost is such that this can be done from my pocket. An eventual goal would be to make this series available to housechurch groups in other areas. Right now, thanks to the economic decline, I am in a job where I sit at a desk and do little, so over the last couple months I've made a lot of progress.
One of the things I notice about simplechurch.com is that, at the time of this writing, the amount of people signed up worldwide is about the same as the megachurch about a mile from where I live. In all honesty, there are a huge amount of believers who don't ever do serious theological reading. Additionally, there is good reason for not listening to 15 minute or longer teachings, but PCcovered that in the chapter on sermons.
Currently, I am writing a series of 2 minute commentaries mainly based on the 61 points of incorrect orthopraxy Viola & Barna discuss in Pagan Christianity. They are written with the idea of putting them to audio, and placing them on a daily basis on a local Christian radio station. Later, there is the possibility of making them available to persons or housechurches in other markets. Also, currently, I have a job where I spend most of my time sitting and waiting for something to happen (doorperson), which has allowed me plenty of time on this project--I am most of the way done.
I write something pretty near every day - journaling if nothing else (I've currently filled about 120 journals!). I also have 6 websites and blogs on the go... the one most relevant to this site is "My Church Journey" at http://normajhill.blogspot.com/ ... I also belong to a local writers group that meets monthly, I am the moderator for a local writers group on yahoo groups, and from time to time I publish in newspapers, magazines, anthologies etc. I have also completed the NaNoWriMo challenge in 2008 and 2009... I write because I love to... and because I feel compelled to... and because it really really helps me to talk things through with Papa, and exchange my mind for His...
