Ammah Christy joined Rusty W.'s groupAmmah, I saw your inquiry to Jon. Not knowing whether he has replied to you directly, I'll just point out that what you're looking for is already available, if I correctly understand your interest. Under the "community" tab, click "members" and do a search by location, whether town or state or country. A list of members in that location will be produced for you in a blink!
Hope this helps.
Ammah, thank you for your note to me. I am a co-founder and coordinator of a small independent ministry called Friends in Christ. At this time, we are not meeting for worship but we do meet (1st & 3rd Mondays, 7:30 PM) in homes for Bible study. We are just about to begin studying the book of Acts.
I am also a member of Cedar Ridge Community Church in Spencerville, MD, and an active participant in a Discipleship Group of the Church in Rockville, MD, which meets in a home weekly. These house groups are a major part of how the Church functions, and engage together in study, prayer, care for one another, service projects, meals/parties together, etc.
Hi Ammah. I go to a local church called Mountain Christian for now, and that's about every other Sunday. No home groups right now.
Dave DeCarlo said… Well you are welcome and thank you for reaching out to me.
I do. We have a small group of about 20 or so that meet in Linthicum, MD if you know where that is. We have been meeting for about 18 years now. How about you?
Dave DeCarlo said… Yes Ammah it is. We would love to have you visit with us. We are at 803 B Barkwood Court Linthicum, Md 21090. If you need to call 410-536-5377 and if you want my cell let me know and I will give it to you. Email is dave@bcffamily.org
I really don't know exactly how to answer your question about our emphasis. The best way to answer that for yourself is to visit and get to know us a little. It will probably be clearer to you then. I will say that a description I heard someone else use about their fellowship fits us I think. Our heart's desire is to know Him and to make Him known. Though we need some work on the make Him known part and we are trusting Him to do that work in us.
We meet on Sunday morning at 10 am for coffee and munchies and fellowship to get to know people if they can make that time. We begin worship around 10:30 and have the Lord's table every week. After ministry of the Word by one or sharing by many we are usually done around 12. Many of us go eath together at some nearby place to continue fellowship.
Lastly I would mention to you that although we are a small group of around 20 we are too big for anyone's home so we meet in a rented space. I don't know if that matters to you or not.
Well this turned out a little longer than I had intended. Hope to see you some time soon. God bless!
Dave
Hi Ammah,
Yes, my husband and I are in an institutional church, where we never completely left. The group we were in was too diverse to really survive, and it disbanded on friendly terms, everyone understanding that our aims and desires were too different from each other to find a way forward together.
I am also in a daytime Bible study that I actually teach. It, too, is an institution, but a living one that flexes and grows with the years and the people (BSF, International).
I am interesting in meeting with others who are sympathetic to the organic community concept, as is my husband and a few of our friends. We have not given up hope to be able to meet in this way, though our involvement in other God-ordained work does require that we stay involved with insitutional church in some way, at least for now.
Are you with an insitutional church right now? Are you involved with a fellowship of believers? What is your community like?
