Well, sister Carolyn, I'm glad you brought that up because scams are a dime a dozen. Even what looks like legitimate sites are not "all that". We have dealt with this problem first hand. I have no favorites, but "feed the childen" with Larry Jones h…

What in the World are we giving to? A Discussion on Missions and Giving

Giving comes in many forms. Though we can give of our time, talents and treasures, this discussion will focus on our treasures (in simple church talk: our money!) and specifically, how our giving can make a significant impact for the kingdom around the world.

I'd like to begin by making three assumptions, followed by a statement, and then ask three questions. The assumptions are:
1) Since you found your way onto this simple church social networking site, that you are probably not currently invo… Continue

Ah, thanks for the compliement about my being articulate (flattery will win you a lovely parting gift!) -- I love to write, always have, and really can't help but!

I'm glad to hear you know of Tim King, and I'm sure he'd love to converse (non-pressured) as to why he sees what he sees, and the glorious implications of it (Kevin Beck's book, "This Book Will Change Your World" is a really good oversight of what Max King wrote back in the early 70's ... I read it quickly, and passed it, along with your book, to Mark). This view is unfolding for us, and my spirit is leaping, even as my mind grapples with seeing things through a new (& initially challenging) paradigm. For me, it allows far more integrity within Scripture (Genesis - Revelation), than I could previously grasp... I figure, if we have Scripture, we oughta be able to understand it (given knowing what's meant to be figurative, and what's meant to be literal -- seems to me that we traditionally take the verses the in the opposite manner in which they were designed to be taken!).

And funny about Frank -- he's another one I'm supposed to update about the conference (he's surrounded by folks who are excited about this stuff!).

I'd encourage a continued dialoge with Tim, and the folks at Presence -- they've got something fairly rare and other-honoring going on there, with zero tolerance (or even proclivity) for name-calling, or disrespect. Mark felt utterly free to openly express concerns, questions (even ones they've entertained likely dozens of times before!), and to say, "I just don't see that", with them remaining as kind and genuinely interested in relationship as they started -- they know that if it's true, then God will bring everyone there eventually (He's not in a hurry). Seeing love in action, in the midst of agreement, unity without unanimity, really touched my heart ...! It's SO needed in the Body! And it's so challenging to respond with that love, when attacked or maligned (or just misunderstood), rather than knee-jerk reacting with self-protection. But, only He can do that within us -- we can't scrounge that response up out of our own flesh.

As for your book -- I loved the narrative, the way I felt I was truly listening to John himself, hearing his perspective, receiving his insights about what he wrote in Revelation (you managed to crawl into his skin as if you knew him firsthand!). You connected the dots in the same way as I had (or, as I was led), when I read Revelation (and the Olivet Discourse), from the perspective of, "if I were a 1st C Jew, how would I hear this?" God used your book to confirm many "crazy" things He'd previously whispered to my spirit. Where we differed was in that I see His return in 70AD incorporating the Day of the Lord (judgment, resurrection), and fully ushering in the new heavens and new earth (which I see as spiritual; He said as much when He told His disciples that His Kingdom would not come with observation, but was within them). So, where you see a yet-coming Day, I see a past fulfillment of it, and am now studying the prophecies of the new covenant, the New Jerusalem, the new heavens and earth, to see what's at hand for us, what's available for us, and who we thus are, now, in this age. I see this as the Kingdom which shall have no end (no yet-looming judgment, wrath and punishment), that God is all in all, and that all Israel (the first fruits) are saved, and thus, so too is the rest of the harvest ... that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, that He is now the Savior of all, especially those who believe (those who believe can fully experience the joy of their salvation) -- the rest are yet-asleep to that reality, but will arrive, one heart at a time, so that the increase of His government shall have no end ... 'til every knee bows (Strongs says in reverence), and every tongue confesses (in praise), on earth, under the earth, above the earth (sounds inclusive), that Jesus Christ is Lord (sounds salvific).

I admit, I resisted this for quite a while, and even argued against it, for it went contrary to all I'd been previously taught. I was in fear of being deceived for over a year, to the point that I even lost hair, due to anxiety...! Hoping it grows back -- being a heretic is one thing, being a bald heretic is quite another...! ;)

But -- as you well know, seeing such things is about receiving a revelation about what's already been written, being able to see the oh-so-familiar in a new (and often threatening) light.

I love the implications of this understanding ... for the first time in my life I'm no longer fearful of what the future may bring, nor dismissive of this planet and our gifted-resources. I no longer see people in a lens of "us vs. them" -- there are no more divisions, and God is no longer at war with humanity. I can afford to love without conditions, for He does. He has done it -- it's not that Jesus isn't important -- heavens no! It's that His atonement was SO powerful, SO inclusive, SO all-pervasive, that it's a total victory for all...! As in Adam all died (they had no say in the matter), so too in Christ are all made alive (we had no say in the matter). He's that loving, that all-reaching, & love is that much more powerful than fear...! Together we can invite others into the wedding feast, together we can reach the hurting with the really good news (not, "God's mad, you're bad, try harder" ... not even "God hopes you'll choose Him, but your will is more powerful than His"). The good news, to me, is "God has done it ALL, and it is finished... He's already chosen YOU. The gates to New Jerusalem are open, and we, the Spirit and the Lamb beckon to you, Come." I see Jesus as gloriously and fully victorious...! I see the world as full of hope for transformation -- and, honestly, it's hard to keep this under my hat, so to speak ... I figure that God knows (and even designed) my penchant for sharing ... so if He caused or allowed me to see this view, then He knew I'd be prone to share. Yes, I do listen to internal nudges and checks -- I want to follow His promptings, and not make a blathersome, irking pest of myself. But when I see so very many folks living under the tyranny of fear (of the future, of their salvational security, of the destiny of loved ones, even of God Himself!), and I realize that perfect love is not being realized (or else it would cast out all fear), then I'm wanting to share that which brings hope, joy and excitement. He's teaching me, and even letting me learn the hard way at times, how to share in His way and His timing. I'm willing to appear foolish during this process (foolish yes, bald, not so much! No offense! Bald becomes you in a way I could never emulate!).

Ah, I did blather on, no? Hopefully not utterly without merit.

Feel free to speak forth...! ;)

Thanks, Bob ... we've got house guests tomorrow, and then Tuesday is for packing -- Mark and I are taking off for 5 days at Transmillennial 2008 -- heard of it? They talk about fulfillment eschatology and comprehensive grace -- quite an amazing combination to my heart ... we're going to hear about how they work together, and what it means for us, now, in this age. They talk about it on these two sites, if you're interested:

www.pantelism.com

www.presence.tv

I plan on calling before, if possible, and if not, then when we return -- rich blessings to you!
