Its been said in other areas in the simple church group that when we commit sin we are not in Jesus . I would agree that we were not abiding in Him but we dont loose fellowship with Him if we stumble . In fact I believe Satan wants us to give it up…

Rob that is a very excellent distinction you made between sin and the frailty of man . when we are in Jesus He puts His Law in our hearts and our new awareness of sin (thru the Holy spirit )draws us out of the sin , not through our own will but…

Free From Sin Teaching

Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness... But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. -- Rom 6:18, 22

1) A person that desires to become a child of God much bring forth fruits to God that are consistent, worthy, keeping with, and befitting repentance (Mat 3:8). Fruits befitting repentance have no merit in becoming a child of God… Continue

Sinning And The Greek Present Tense

Some that make a plead that sin is consistent in the life of a Christian by claiming that the words continuous, constantly, habitual, or practice must be added to Greek verbs or participles that are in the present tense.

For example 1Joh 3:8 says "he that committeth sin is of the devil" (KJV). They would translate this as "he that continuously committeth sin is of the devil" (Modified). The KJV translation would viewed as a one time sin and then a person would be of the… Continue

Sin You Must Teaching

Sin-You-Must -- This teaching holds that a person will continue to commit sin after being saved and that as a believer you will sin in word, thought, and deed almost daily. Teachers of this doctrine say that we should try not to sin but that sinning and repenting is the reality of living in this flesh.

Most would teach that if you commit a serious sin like fornication or adultery you would fall out of fellowship with God. If you would continued committing… Continue

Sin Is Not An Option For The Christian

Because of the Sin You Must teaching and the great compromise of Christianity, even those that feel like they are committed Christian have got it some where in the back of their mind that to commit sin is an option.

This has partly happened due to confusion over what sin is. Honest Christians have been confused into thinking that errors, faults, and mistakes in opinion and action are sins. You can read… Continue

Hi Bob,
I'm Edgar from the Philippines. I'd like to invite you to read my article at www.bibleone.net/TheMillennium.htm. The millennium doctrine is vital for Christians to understand. It has to do with the word of the kingdom and the salvation of the soul, not spirit (Matt. 13:19; 1 Pet. 1:9; James 1:21; Heb. 10:39; Matt. 16:24-28). I'd appreciate a comment, but you are not obligated.
Thanks,
Edgar Meneses

Thanks for commenting, Bob. I guess you have not read and will not read my article. That's because you have already concluded that the millennial reign of the Messiah is not going to be or is not important. I wish we could be like the Bereans who first heard what apostle Paul had to say and then judged later, whether those things were according to the Bible, while there is still time. At the Judgment Seat of Christ (immediately after the Rapture) there will be no more time to study and believe in biblical doctrine like the Millennium. Many Christians then will "weep and gnash their teeth" for not doing things that they could have done while in the body (2 Cor. 5:10,11).

My name is Dana Cashwell and I along with my husband Travis, my three kids, Cameron 6 (she's a girl), Madeline 4 and Thomas 3 we left the church 2 years ago to BE the Church. The problem was we didn't know how to do it. Travis and I grew up in church so when we explained to our family, friends and church what God wanted us to do, the majority of them considered us apostates and heretics. Don't get me wrong, they loved us in their way, they just didn't support us.

A year ago, along with some of the friends we had left, started something called So What! Ministries (shameless plug: www.sowhatministries.com). Which was all about getting people off their butt and serving their community/church/family. Then we read Pagan Christianity. Mainly because George Barna was listed as an author. After reading it, we devoured everything that Frank Viola has written because he put on paper what we were going through and what to do about it. We're in the process now of revamping and updating everything.

I felt like I was wandering in the wilderness for 2 years searching for the promised land; thank God I finally found it!

Hey Bob, we're you being literal when you asked about the moral of the story in our blog, or just tongue-in-cheek? I wanted to respond, but just wasn't quite sure how to until I knew where you were coming from....

Thanks for clarifying your comment about the blog post. I'd agree that the broker-metaphor is rather simplistic, but I suppose the use of analogy always has it's limits at some point. I mean, even the parables of Jesus reach a point where they can only illustrate so much, and so we learn to take the basic point from them and understand that altogether they comprise a series of snapshots of the Kingdom, rather than a detailed, in depth analysis...

Since much has been written in a literal, doctrinal approach to the questions surrounding "simple church", it seemed like it might be helpful to try and find a new way to illustrate an already well-made point.

As to the matter of it being TOO simplistic, that's probably a tougher one to unpack... The message certainly isn't that all ministers are sleazy, unscrupulous hucksters trying to prey on new Christians.. (although those guys are out there....) Most people who go into "the ministry" do so out of a genuine desire to serve and teach people in the Lord. Unfortunately, due to what has developed over the last two millenia, nowadays people believe that in order to be able to do that, they must step into some official role, with the appropriate credentials, education, and must accept a life of being viewed by the general population as being "set apart". It is essentially a re-creation of the Old Testament priesthood, where the individual stands as an intermediary between God and the people. Now, what needs to be emphasized, (and perhaps the blog does a poor job of this) is that this intermidiary-role is created by having "official" pastors, REGARDLESS of the individual pastors intentions... It is not a question of the motives of the person in that position, is a question of understanding human nature in relation to having certain "special" religious professionals. Despite the intentions of the people involved, embracing a system which sets people into two classes, clergy and laity, no matter how they are specifically embodied, inevitably reduces to the majority of the body to being little more than an audience, who are expected to "attend", volunteer once in a while, and regularly donate cash.

This is not at all what we see depicted in scripture....

The broker analogy was simply an exploration of this idea of an intermidiary, from a financial standpoint, instead of a spiritual one. I think one of the main strengths of using analogy or parables is that it takes familiar topics and reframes them in unfamiliar terms, thus eliminating the typical, baggage-laden religious terminology that so often clouds our thinking and allows us to think about things in a more objective way...

Hopefully that explains a little bit about where we were coming from as we wrote that.... By the way, what is a Charity? Is like a church? I'm not familiar with that term, except for the usual use of "giving to charity..." Just curious...

In Christ, Daniel

Bob.....did you read the blog, or just make assumptions from the title?
At 8:36pm on December 7, 2008, Tim RowlandTim Rowland said…
Then you would know that the term or title 'reverend' is not conferred upon oneself, but by others. You would further understand that that there is more than one meaning of the word translated as reverend such as:Yare (Niphal) "to inspire reverence or godly fear or awe" The purpose of the so-called 'reverend' was not to BE reverend in the sense of being God, but to inspire others to reverence as ministers before God. The IC churned out Rev.s to evangelize and save the world by inspiring others to fear God and be in awe of Him.
So its a joke for me, because I can't get away from it, even out of the IC. It's my title. I have to sign every marriage certificate with my title as required by the state of Nevada. You cannot perform marriages in this state without being clergy, and printing your title on two separate lines on the certificate.
As to applying God's attributes to myself, I don't do that, God does. Like when we were told to be 'perfect' as our Father in heaven is perfect. OR, I should caution you against letting your children call you 'Father' cause that's a title belonging to God. OR we could recognize that being created in the image of God and being quickened by the Spirit of God to be conformed into the image of the likeness of His Son, that the relational aspect between God and His children allows us to rest, or relax in the security of His love and acceptance and not worry about the OT smackdown because of my name or title.
In respect to your view, thank you for your kind concern for my immortal soul and all, but you need to relax!! Obsess mutch? Get it? Mutch? God bless you, Bro.

(Disclaimer: The preceeding comments are purely satirical in nature and meant in jest)

But then Bob, I would be putting falsehood on a legal state document because I was not part of the IC that didn't use the title.......(wait for it)..... Rev.

Now, I recommend you afflict yourself in the spirit of Ezra 8:21 for encouraging a brother in the Lord to lie to the government.
At 9:11pm on December 7, 2008, Tim RowlandTim Rowland said…
What you 'think' doesn't change the laws of the state of Nevada, or the title conferred upon me at ordination, or the fact that if I choose to change my title it doesn't mean a hill of beans legally and would still be a falsehood. So I guess what you think is greater than.......everything?

Methinks the brother doth protest too Mutch! lol!
At 9:31pm on December 7, 2008, Tim RowlandTim Rowland said…
Yes, Bob, I don't know why this is a struggle for you to grasp, but doggone if those government goons want to know what specific title, not an approximation, euphanism, or synonym.

I wonder why this is such a fascination for you, and why there has been no response to any of the other points made? Possibly because you have no valid refutation? Or is it that in your heart you know it isn't 'Charitable' to try to enforce your convictions on others?

I respect you as a brother in the Lord if Jesus Christ is indeed your savior (only you and He know), but I think you need a hobby, Dude!

"Welcome to the site, Tim! Oh, by the way, you are blaspheming and God might just strike you dead for the word they put in front of your name when you went into ministry (Job said so). Have a nice day!"

Veeeery Charitable, eh?
