Thanks Carl, actually Ryan lives in the southern part of the state, near the Indiana border. I have contacted someone name Joel Curliss, who lives in Petoskey, over an hour from TC, but haven't heard from him as yet. It's funny, I've…

The Process of Discipline

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend.

Yesterday, my youngest son and my daughter continued to have “issues” with one another, which primarily revolved around sharing and kindness. My son didn’t want my daughter in his room, so his solution was to send our friend’s 3 year old daughter to tell my wife that my daughter was being a “brat.” At the same time, I hear my daughter saying: “Please give me another chance and don’t tell mom.” Needless to say the situation was getting… Continue

A Perfect Fit

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend.

Any shade tree mechanic or do it yourself repair man knows the importance of having the right tool in hand. A slotted screwdriver just won’t do, when the task calls for a Phillips head. Needle nose pliers are just no substitute for a socket wrench. Without the right tools for the job, the job is likely to be done poorly or not at all.

The issue is purpose. The assorted tools in the toolbox were designed for specific purposes.… Continue

One Step at a Time

Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

“How do you eat an elephant?” “One bite at a time,” the answer goes. This question and answer is often used when discussing an overwhelming challenge that looms larger than life in front of another. It is a reminder not to focus on the totality of the challenge, but instead to conquer it one step at a time.

In life, we face many challenges that are so much bigger than we are. Circumstances that seem insurmountable bring to… Continue

The Endorsement of Your Life

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend.

Over the weekend, the most famous pitchman in America passed away. Billy Mays was the king of infomercials, having made a name for himself by passionately extolling the virtues of numerous household products. Before any of us knew Billy’s name we knew him by the products he represented. We would often refer to him as the Oxi-Clean guy or the Mighty Putty guy. We knew Billy, not for who he was, but instead what he represented. Billy knew… Continue

Get Your Praise On

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend.

This morning as my wife and I were out for our morning walk, we found ourselves talking about praise. Praise is such a critical component in our relationship to God, because it acknowledges who He is. For example:

Revelation 4:8 (NASB)

And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, “HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, is THE LORD GOD,…

Hi Carl,
I'm Edgar from the Philippines. I'd like to invite you to read my article at www.bibleone.net/TheMillennium.htm. The millennium doctrine is vital for Christians to understand. It has to do with the word of the kingdom and the salvation of the soul, not spirit (Matt. 13:19; 1 Pet. 1:9; James 1:21; Heb. 10:39; Matt. 16:24-28). I'd appreciate a comment, but you are not obligated.
Thanks,
Edgar Meneses

Hi Carl, thanks for the reply. I will invite my husband to watch the video with me. We stayed up way too late last night, talking about what we are longing to experience.
We have been believers for 25 years and have been in vocational ministry as well as lay ministry. Right now we have secular jobs, but we believe that every Christian is in ministry no matter where they are :) Are you familiar with Pastor Bill Johnson ? His book, "When Heaven Invades Earth" has really challenged me to get real about what being a Christian really means.

We used to belong to a wonderful small group, in addition to a large institutional church. Right now, we are involved in the music/worship ministry in a large church, and we LOVE to worship, but the rest of the experience is just....well.....churchy and religious. When our home group leaders moved to SC, we felt like orphans ! Our current church is not encouraging or training home group leaders.
We have never experienced anything in an institutional church that could even compare to the growth and intimacy with God and His people than we experienced in our home group. I am hopeful that God has even better things in store. We just need some guidance on how to start.

Hi Carl :
It's Kathryn again.
OK, we FINALLY watched the video together !
It definitely made an impression upon my husband. We had a long talk and he will be seeking the LORD for the next week with intensity for direction.
What you had to share really resonates with us. My husband's name is Bruce. Please pray for him. I am expectant and hopeful for what God has planned to do in and through us.
Blessings to you and yours.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for responding. I am learning to reach out to the body. This is a posture that feels natural or good at first. I'm realizing that even in reaching out there is ministry opportunities. Unfortunately, reaching out in the structured church life in the U.S. isn't always met with a response that is encouraging. So, thank you for your response.

I would like to talk with you about our ministry, simple church and how to best be the brothers we are called to be. I would be willing to call you at your convenience. Just let me know if you are open to this and a good time to reach you. My email is [email protected] I don't know where God is leading all the time, but I'm learning not to shut any doors. His plans and His kingdom are much better than any I could fabricate.

Hi Carl:
Have you read Pagan Christianity and Reimagining Church? I am 1/2 way through the second book and it is very compelling. Would you say that the way you all do church meetings is "organic" as defined by Frank Viola in these books?
At 7:36pm on December 16, 2008, Kathryn BerkowitzKathryn Berkowitz said…
Thanks for the reply,Carl. The Viola books are very compellimg reading. From what I
understand about "organic" meetings, everyone present does not have to be a believer. They are welcome to witness and experience what the Presence of Jesus is like among His Church. Viola describes organic type gatherings where the Presence of God was so evident that unbelievers gave their hearts to Him by virtue of what they witnessed. Wow, now that's exciting.
