Context is King!

We've heard that, when studying the Word of God, it is important not to proof-text and take a text of scripture out of context, but rather consider its meaning in light of the passage in which it…Continue

I am not surprised.  You led a group that was part of another church (if that is what you mean by "inside" a baptist church.  The "traditional" form of the institutionalized church is simply too ingrained.  Had…

Sorry sister, I thought I told you. S: Scripture O: Observation A: Application and P: Prayer. It's pretty awesome what we have done with Ephesians. The prayers and observations of the saints in this group could be a book in itself. Some great…

I first heard of Wayne when my daughter was living in Hilo and attended his church there. Later, of course, he moved to Oahu and now New Hope has many locations, including one very near where we live. I figured the "P" of SOAP was prayer,…

Aloha to you as well. So you live n Hawaii? That's interesting as the acronym SOAP came from Wayne Cordeiro's book, Divine Mentor. Wayne is a Foursquare pastor there in Hawaii. And I used to do medical transcription, so I also remember…

Aloha Clark, I checked out the other link you gave me for the prayer journal. I need to read a bit more before I get the hang of it. I recognize the SOAP from my nursing days, but not sure what it means in this context. Cheryl

I think the difference is whether or not we are, in fact, born again believers in Jesus Christ, rather than "former believers of whatever group" we came out of. What we believe and who we believe it about makes a lot of difference. As…

Greetings Cheryl, I'm delighted that you joined "Journal Into the Mystic." There is so much inspired writing there in response to the scriptures. You know the passage in Ephesians that talks about taking on the whole armor of God?…

Understanding the context of a verse is one of several important Hermeneutic principals, but the old testament, for instance, has many "types" or "shadows" that Jesus and other new testament writers expanded beyond their original…

Cheryl Kaster replied to David's discussion 'What does it mean to ‘Serve’ the Lord?'
I think this mindset comes about because that is what the IC leaders lead us to believe is the way to "serve" the Lord. They get us early, and often, and this mentality of being there every time the doors open is very appealing to folks…

Greetings Cheryl,

I'm delighted that you joined "Journal Into the Mystic." There is so much inspired writing there in response to the scriptures. You know the passage in Ephesians that talks about taking on the whole armor of God? There is a passage that speaks of "scripture praying:"

The literal is "And take the Sword of the Spirit through the instrumentality of prayer."

Anyway Cheryl, we have moved to another site regardind our prayer journaling and you can check it out here : http://www.ccel.org/node/6345

I would be delighted if you joined us there as well and hope to see you contributing soon.

Your brother,

Clark Wade

Hi, Cheryl. I noticed your comment about being a target of a spammer. When a spammer comes on the site, their account is removed and all their data is erased, and they are blocked from the site. The reason for there being no log of the message is that everything is removed in rather short order. If you experience it again, there is a link at the bottom of the page for reporting issues.

I'm not sure exactly why I moved prayer journaling to CCEL. I think I had the idea of cross-pollinating with other brothers and siters who are not meeting in house churche settings as a challenging prospect. I think it is workiong well. There is another site there, the "Protestant Layman Theology Group" that I have also joined and we have, unlike the prayer journal, some vigarous debates. But I think the dust and feathers are beginning to settle.

Blessings,

Clark.

It's pretty awesome what we have done with Ephesians. The prayers and observations of the saints in this group could be a book in itself. Some great writing. The header I gave to the post on Ephesians 5:3 "Evangelicals are addicted to porn" is getting quite a bit of attention, but that is exactly what Eph. 5:3 addresses huh?
