The music on this page is from Daniel Markoya. Please take a moment to listen to this brother's gifting for the body of Christ. So much Christian music nowadays sound so "top ten." This is not Daniel. I use His music frequently in my morning devotional time and throughout the day. Daniel has 4 CDs that you can order at cdbaby.com. Daniel's web page is www.danielmarkoya.com. Here you can also download three songs brother Daniel has offered for free. One of these songs is "I Love You All The Time," which is one of my favorites.

GOD HAS PLACED EVERYTHING UNDER THE POWER OF CHRIST AND HAS SET HIM UP AS HEAD OF EVERYTHING FOR THE CHURCH. FOR THE CHURCH IS HIS BODY, AND IN THAT BODY LIVES FULLY THE ONE WHO FILLS THE WHOLE WIDE UNIVERSE. EPHESIANS 1:22-23

BUT WE ARE MEANT TO HOLD FIRMLY TO THE TRUTH IN LOVE AND TO GROW UP IN EVERY WAY INTO CHRIST, THE HEAD. FOR IT IS FROM THE HEAD THAT THE WHOLE BODY, AS A HARMONIOUS STRUCTURE, KNIT TOGETHER BY THE JOINTS WITH WHICH IT IS PROVIDED, GROWS BY THE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF INDIVIDUAL PARTS TO ITS FULL MATURITY IN LOVE. EPHESIANS 4:15-16

AND NOT HOLDING FAST THE HEAD, FROM WHOM ALL THE BODY, BEING SUPPLIED AND KNIT TOGETHER THROUGH THE JOINTS AND BANDS, INCREASETH WITH THE INCREASE OF GOD. COLOSSIANS 2:19

“IF WE WISH TO LIVE OUT THE LIFE OF THE BODY OF CHRIST, WE MUST COVER OUR OWN HEAD; THAT IS TO SAY, WE MUST NOT HAVE OUR PERSONAL OPINION, EGOISTIC WILL, OR SELFISH THOUGHT. WE CAN ONLY OBEY THE LORD AND LET HIM BE THE HEAD. THE LORD ALONE IS IN THAT POSITION; NOBODY ELSE CAN BE. I CANNOT BE HEAD, NEITHER CAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE CHURCH BE, FOR THE BODY HAS ONLY ONE HEAD AND IS IN SUBJECTION TO THAT HEAD, WHICH IS CHRIST. WE ALL MUST THEREFORE OBEY HIM.

“UNFORTUNATELY, THERE APPEARS TO BE IN THE CHURCH TOO MANY HEADS, TOO MANY HUMAN LEADERS, TOO MANY MEN’S WAYS AND REGULATIONS. TOO OFTEN MAN ASPIRES TO BE THE AUTHORITY. WHILE CHRIST IS HEAD IN HEAVEN, MAN WANTS TO BE HEAD ON EARTH. WHEN THE THOUGHT OF THE EARTHLY HEAD HAPPENS TO AGREE WITH THAT OF THE HEAVENLY ONE, WE OBEY CHRIST. BUT WHEN THE EARTHLY HEAD DISAGREES WITH THE HEAVENLY ONE, WE DISOBEY CHRIST. HOW WRONG IS THIS ENTIRE SYSTEM!” Watchman Nee, “The Body of Christ: A Reality”

1 Corinthians 12
Spiritual Gifts
Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 13For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.

If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

PRAYER FOR HIS CHURCH

GOD HAS PLACED EVERYTHING UNDER THE POWER OF CHRIST AND HAS SET HIM UP AS HEAD OF EVERYTHING FOR THE CHURCH. FOR THE CHURCH IS HIS BODY, AND IN THAT BODY LIVES FULLY THE ONE WHO FILLS THE WHOLE WIDE UNIVERSE. Ephesians 1:22-23.

O MY LORD JESUS CHRIST! When I gaze into the eyes of your suffering, I know the cross wasn't meant only for salvation, but for the birth of Your Church. For Your Church came out of Your innermost, pierced by a Roman lance, freeing the blood and water of new birth.

Lord! It is Your intention that Your Church be under Your power and Headship. For the Church is Your body where You desire to live fully and express Yourself in all Your multi-splendored ways as Chief Magistrate, CEO, and Ruler of all.

O my Lord! This is not what I see! This is not what the world sees! This is not what devils see!

Lord. Your wineskin has become the habitation of willful men and their programs. It is encrusted by institutional structures and traditions that have little to do with Your will or or Headship.

You see Lord, the music, the songs, the sermons, are so tightly scripted, there's just no room for You.

Most of Your body just sits Lord. But they sit well. And they sing well and on que. Throw money in the plate. And listen to the sermon. But Your body is expressionless. It comes expressionless and leaves expressonless. And thus You are expressionless. Without mutual participaton of all Your members, be it hand, foot, eye, mouth, stomach, joints and sinew, we just see a portion of You through a glass darkly.

My Lord! What have we done? Forgive us. Release the prisoners of our religous convention. Set the captives Free! Heal the brokenhearted! Come and live once more in Your Church. Be Head over Your Church! Demolish all human headship and take Your rightful place. Live fully in Your Church and fill the universe with Who You Are! Come Lord Jesus!

SO MUCH OF OUR PRAYER LIVES are filled with requests for this, that, and the other thing. Dallas Willard has made the comment that we have turned God into our "cosmic Bell Hop." HEARTS OF CELESTIAL FIRE: A CELEBRATION OF HIS INDWELLING IN TEN ACTS

I began writing "Celebration of His Indwelling" 12 years or so ago after reading "Majestic Is Your Name: A 40-Day Journey in the Company of Theresa of Avila." This book had one of the most powerful experiences on me. I remember sitting "in church" and we were having our worship time. But instead of directing my praises to Him Most High, I directed them to the One Most Nigh, even in my heart. But I was averted from continuing this practice for… Continue

MY POETRY

So what influences a person to write poetry? I think it comes in part simply by reading poetry, a lot it. Pages upon pages. And thinking deeply about things, as far as the heart can stretch. I came to a saving, penetrating knowledge of Jesus Christ during the 70's, when I was 19, and with knowing Him also came a love of poetry, particularly Gibran, Quaker poet, John Greenleaf Whittier, St. John of the Cross, and Thomas Traherne. I was attracted to any… Continue

Hi Clark,

Thank you for the kind words about "The Temple Within". I'm so glad to hear that the book touched your spirit, brother. That is always encouraging to hear.

Now, I want to encourage you! Your poetry is awesome. It brings me face to face with Him in my spirit immediately. It's so easy to behold Him through your words. I read the first three acts. Do you have the whole piece as a file that you could send me? I would love to share it with some of the saints here and other places.

I checked out a few things on your page. Are you part of a fellowship of believers? Maybe you could tell me a little about it?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

your brother in our costly but glorious quest,

Milt

Clark,
I ordered the book, The Sacrament of the Present Moment and have read about 4 or 5 chapters. I am so glad you suggested it. It draws you into God and is so practical. I love his relationship with the Lord and how simple he writes. The last few days I have been reading Andrew Murray's- The Spirit of Christ. I quess I had missed this one of his. What truths and spiritual understandings were revealed to him! This will be one of my favorites for while. I can't wait to finish it and start it over again.....Thanks again...I've been waiting for you to start journaling in John 17....I want to hear what the Spirit is showing you...Mitzi

Clark,
I will definately check out the other writings of Murray you suggested.

The Lord is gently pushing onward, upward, and inward. We are a chosen people...called out. You mentioned the diversity of the body of Christ...in all the different dwelling places. I really like that thought. It seems so right.

I also understand about the brokenness and the division of the spirit and flesh. I am seeing that no matter how good or how honorable a work of the flesh is....God still calls it "a work of the flesh." Only the things done in response to the Spirit's leading are profitable and will survive the furnace of His judging of works. My favorite comment has always been..."My heart was right in that thing," But I'm realizing God expects more...He expects us to listen to His voice and obey it, not our good intentions. It's a walk of faith and waiting upon the Holy Spirit to speak.

Clark,
I just finished reading the Kingdom of Heaven within by Murray. Every sentence written in these 17 pages contains impregnated truths. I usually read with a highlighter to highlight specific sentences that have significance to where I am at the time of reading....when I finished the whole 17 pages were almost pink with my highlighter.
I am humbled and the beginnings of a Spirit-led brokenness has begun. I thought that I was further along in Him.....but His Spirit has gently but strongly
convicted me of a divided heart.
But today He reminded me of the feather.....

Had to share with you...yesterday as I was sweeping my patio, I found a small feather stuck standing straight up...stuck between the glass top and the iron part on my patio table. I took a picture and left it there as a reminder of our life in the Spirit....no will of our own, but His will. This is freedom!

The fire has begun in Kenya.
Once again I want to sincerely thank you for standing with us in prayer last week when I requested for the same. I had no idea how our first Simple Church experience would be like. I’m so humbled as I report that your prayer for us was answered. Twenty people had agreed to attend; thirty six came! My living room was filled to capacity, with some standing by the door. I had asked the Holy Spirit to lead and He was so faithful. I bear witness to His almost tangible presence that nostalgic evening. Those two hours! Most of the people present were, like me, born and raised in church, while others gave their lives to Christ in high school or college. Sometimes back they stopped fellowshipping at their respective ‘churches’ because they found not what they were looking for. It’s worse when one is working or in business and gets regular income! Some backslid as others remained in their homes, wounded and confused.
I had asked favor from the Holy Spirit to help me not speak against the established church or going personal on any issue in this very important meeting. The Spirit led us! When we sang “Amazing Grace”, (which to me now is an anthem for sinners) everybody just stood and then knelt. We all wept so bitterly without anyone’s influence but the Holy Ghost Himself. He convicted us without any man’s or woman’s hand. This went on for over 45 minutes. We then held each other’s hands and just prayed for one another! It was so enriching. My goodness, this is what we had been looking for, some of us for so many years! There wasn’t any interruption. After this, Madam Priscah (a colleague) stood and read this scripture-2Cor 11:20-21 “In fact you put up with anyone who enslaves you or exploits you or takes advantage of you or pushes himself forward or slaps you in the face. To my shame I admit that we were too weak for that.”
This part of scripture came with so much force; the voice so clear, that the Lord had started a movement in this house, that will lead to a Revolution in the body of Christ in Kenya and Africa. We parted ways so lifted up, refreshed and enlightened.
Since schools had closed for the August holidays, I traveled to Kitui via Nairobi on Monday (the following day), on my way to visit my wife, Roseline, who is an accountant and works in the Eastern Province. Tuesday night we had a gathering in Nairobi city. I had phoned informing some friends about the simple church and my intention that we meet at one of my friends’ house. Twenty four people attended, among them two pastors. Unlike the meeting at my house, this had some challenges that I know the Spirit wanted me to be aware of. It almost became a bickering contest and I found myself engulfed in this morass. This group will be meeting Friday nights at a restaurant. I’m worried because I see narrow agenda within the group. This is why I think we need to training. We need to know how to handle simple church, being religious and artistic we are. We’re people that take things to the extreme; wrong things or right things. If the beginning/foundation be right, the right extremes will resound in every corner of this globe. As I prepare to host another meeting tomorrow down here in Kitui town, I’m praying for partnership with other parts of the world- brothers and sisters with experience in the simple church. I want them to come forth and help us.
I read about two young people staying with Jon Dale in the US, to learn and bring us what they’ve got. That’s great. It sounds wonderful coming to the West for training. People in Africa would love that! But I feel it would be more thoughtful if the West came to Africa and met us and talked to us in our homes, villages and cities. The impact would be more profound, am sure! These pioneers would go into annuls of history as people who wrought a new beginning in the body of Christ in Africa. This is what the Lord has put on my mind, and I know it’s the right path.
Jim.

Simple Church hits Kitui town
This was the third fellowship we’re opening in just one week. Each one them is unique in her own way. Here in Kitui, we had two meetings- Saturday and Sunday night. The first one was attended mainly by Roseline’s (my wife) colleagues and three locals. Thirteen people attended. They came expecting a preaching from me because last December I was invited and ministered at the Deliverance church on Christmas day and many were blessed. The Spirit has told me to be very careful in simple church fellowships because there’s tendency for religion cropping up and people idolizing the speaking that has a tint of charisma (I have some of that), which in turn manifests the inordinate and dangerous favoritism that many Christians bestow upon teachers in so many churches today, with characteristic imminent dangers of trusting themselves and their teachers over Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
I had thought my wife had understood the right church dynamics as revealed in and practiced by the simple church movement, after the many emails and lengthy conversations over phone, but I’ve never been so wrong! It was expedient to rise up and explain the Christian Manifesto of proper church protocol, which entails the headship of Christ Himself under directorship of the Holy Spirit, proper use of money, no salaried elders, proper giving, governance under consensus and understanding of God’s direction through the Spirit etc, as opposed to the lip-service that the traditional church has largely paid to Jesus for nearly two thousand years. Without emotions and personalized gait that I normally command in my speeches, and in a low composed tone, expressly given by the Spirit for that particular gathering, I laid down what the Lord expects of our fellowship with Him. I could feel the still small voice speaking to each one that was in that place, followed by a look of conviction on their brows. As I started humming “All to Jesus I Surrender” people started worshipping the Lord but unlike in the first meeting at my house in Khasoko, where there was crying, here there was that quiet, calm serenity in the room. Without much more, they accepted to come back the following day (Sunday) for more.
Now, let me briefly explain about this town known as Kitui (which you can also find on googleearth.com). It has a population of about 50,000 people and is located in a semi-arid area. No meaningful economic activity goes on here except some irrigation agriculture sponsored by NGOs and government. There a lot of suffering amongst people and this is exacerbated by the ongoing prolonged droughts in the country. The conditions that people live in have humbled them to the floor. Talk about living by faith- many people here need that faith to live for another day!
So on Sunday (yesterday) thirty one people came. I could read a yearning to be told some more from a ‘teacher’, and following a given church program, the trend they’re used to in their respective “churches”. I had to be helped by the Spirit of God! Among attendants was a pastor from a small church in town, who kept referring to me as ‘pastor’. Well, I didn’t rise to talk again as expected. Those that had attended the previous night’s fellowship stood and bore witness to the truth, that the body of Christ in Africa has done so much work for the Lord and long forgot Lord of the work! The spirit of conviction held all captive, and the pastor stood at started repenting on behalf of the clergy, for preaching the gospel of manipulation. His was worse; he consented, because he has no ‘elders’ in his congregation and runs all programs with his wife (who was also present). He blames it all on ‘poverty that makes desperate people do desperate things to survive.” That fellowship never ended. We move on tomorrow (Tuesday) night.
Definitely, these are seminal times in the history of the body of Christ in Africa and the world at large. “Do you not say, ‘Four months more, then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” (John 4:35). I feel in the Spirit that this anointing is all over the world. The Lord is reclaiming His headship over His body. Oh our responsibility! The mighty tide of God's Spirit is sweeping by us, in its prayer-directed course. There is a river (of salvation) the streams whereof make glad the city of God (Psalm 46:4). It is time to "get together," and plunge in, individually and collectively. Fly to the rescue of God’s people from the claws of religion, clergy, cults and dogma. Do not fear! I pray for you. Let the fire that’s consuming here consume the whole earth; and let the truth reign. For our God is a consuming fire! Arise O LORD and let your enemies be scattered, in the Name of Jesus Christ.Amen!
With love,
Bro Jim Nduruchi.

I haven't had time to respond to Robert's questions but wanted to share some responses regarding the role of "elders"and the safety of plural and collegial structures where no one man rules. I was thankful for your thoughtful response. It was also refreshing to hear of your experience of such "security" coming about without formal labels.

My SC experience the last year in trying to plant a gathering has bee almost constant transition. Please pray that the Lord will bring a cluster of faithful and like-minded men.

Friends,
One glaring difference between ministers in the institutional church in Africa and the West is that in the West the clergy receives formal training in seminaries but here someone simply wakes up one morning and claims whatever title they admire, with most claiming “pastor”. A good number don't have an elaborate formal education, therefore understanding of scripture is sometimes misplaced. To this group belongs the less educated and poorest Africans mainly dwelling in slums of urban areas and rural places.
Last evening, over 30 pastors heeded my invitation at the hotel foyer, and we had a rather heated time together. I chose to use the Corinthian Elders written by Jack Fortenberry because it seeks to address the clergy. We all agreed that there's a problem in the church; that something is not quite right. Indeed this is true because they had attended the National repentance crusade. But things went sour when I read “If we say we're not able to teach one another we deny God's Spirit in us-1John 2:27.” (pg.30). They were not amused when the book, concerning teachers, read, “This favoritism in the assembly may reveal a lack of interest in the brother seated in the pew behind us...”. Our meeting ended with 13 only pastors, who exchanged contacts with me, and I shall be visiting their homes soon. The seed has been planted, glory be to God, for He shall bring the rain to water the fields.

Or did I miss it?
