I don't know, Michael. What are your ideas about defining the ekklesia according to the themes, doctrines, and practices you mention below?

You're welcome Guy. Returning now to your original blog post, how do you see us today translating the emphases of the Apostles and early Christians (E.g. Using the OT [as well as fresher revelation] in defining themes, doctrines, and practices; and…

Thanks for the info, Michael. I know of a few Jews here in Guayaquil, but not many. The traditional church we were part of for many years was led by a pastor very pro-Israel and all things Jewish. He renamed the church Israel Baptist Church. It has…

Hi again Guy, Also for your information: Many Jews [in Ecuador] are from the Sephardi ancestry. Some assume that they were one of the settlers in Ecuador. They came from Germany in 1939, on a ship called the "Koenigstein". During the years 1933-43…

Scripture...as we live it

Alan Knox, who got my vote for best blog in 2009, has just completed his 100th "Scripture...As We Live It". I love this series of posts where Alan quotes well known Bible verses as we live them, rather than by what is actually said.

Some of my favorites are:

What then, brothers? When you come toget… Continue

Definition of Church

One of my favorite lessons in training new house church workers is when
we get into trying to define what a New Testament church actually looks
like. I'll get to our own Biblical definition in a minute, but first...

People come with all kinds of understandings and baggage about what a
church is and what it is to look like. Back in the early years of our
church planting, our team debated for months as to what we thought a NT
church was supposed to be.

There are many helpful… Continue

Can any believer baptize?

One of the issues continuing to resurface again and again in our church planting is whether or not individual believers (disciples) can baptize those whom they have led to Christ. The vast majority of evangelicals in Ecuador hold to th… Continue

That is absolutely correct! Steve is a good brother I enjoy getting to know him during those years 1995-2001. Don't know what happen after that. But I assume he's doing well. I also did enjoy attending that conference and got to me several brothers as well.

Guy,
Thanks for sharing that with me. We shouldn't leave unless the Lord tells us anyway. It is common though of those who have left (make a clean break) altogether from "organized church" for new beginning of house/organic church.
I recall attending a 2001 Soutnern House Church conference in Atlanta that at one point someone shared that SBC had a group of men having a "oversight" of home groups they were having. At the conference during a meal I did teased that the conference had a "baptist flavor" and those at my table thought it was funny but the host didn't think it was. Of course he was a SBC himself. Oh well.
On the side note I enjoy reading your posts.
Many blessings in Christ,
bro Bob

Guy,
As your currently being involved with house church and member of SimpleChurch why it is important for you to remain SBC? There are many ministers/pastors that have left their positions and whomever traditional church they were part of and moved onto house/organic church. That is what I did. I was once part of a very good denimination.
Just thought I ask.
Rejoice in Him!, your brother Bob

Guy,
Thanks for your message. It's good to hear from you. I read your home page and your blog. Goodness! There's so much to read! Good stuff though. I will have to visit your site and read a few messages at a time. Been meeting in homes since May '96. It grew at one point and we connect with groups out of area, but without details one thing lead to another and now it is us three or four brothers. But we still enjoy meeting and fellowship.
Thanks again and God bless,
your brother Bob

Guy, you have such great water in Ecuador! Amazingly blue... I am feeling called to Ecuador.. can I live near the water??? We are in New Mexico..not an ocean in sight. Are you friends with Miguel and Claudia Labrador of Pathways International? You are both in Ecuador... so we have heard much about it... I enjoyed your insights on the definition of church, and they are spot on.. we have some of that experience recently too. Thanks.

Guy,
Thanks for our new friendship. I am inspired by reading your home page about the gathering in Ecuador and things you're shared to others. Lord willing we'll get acquainted and fellowship by means of this site.

Hi Guy, it was great meeting you in Dallas. When do you return to South America? A book should be waiting for you there.
