The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.... Proverbs 1:7



The “fear of the Lord” could be used to extract certain behaviours that communicate respect and reverence in children and members of institutional churches. The Hebrew word for fear, yirah (yud-reish-heh), can also mean awe or reverence. It adds another dimension to that understanding that is often missing.
