Well, this is how it is with us at this point.
We meet with about 20 people every other Sunday night what we call ChurchVille. It seems to be going well and have made some lasting friendships. They all have rallied around others in the group when times were tough. It's been great, being like a family. A typical time is :
1) We have a meal together
2) share what has happened since the last time we met
3) go through Scripture, for example we are going through Ephesians right now...one chapter at a time
The time after our meal does vary a bit depending on what is going on.
One thing which we miss which we are not doing is singing together. No one knows how to play a guitar or putting on a CD just doesn't seem to cut it either. We're all pretty much "horrible" singers anyway. :)
The opposite Sundays I go to another guys house and we go over things as well. May be Scripture, a book we're reading, an audiobook we're listening to, etc. Even that begins with breakfast. :)
March 18-20 there is a Greenhouse (Story 1) in Mpls which I would highly recommend going. I will be there along with another buddy who is in our Sunday evening group. You have to register by Jan 18th though and the cost I believe is $135 + lodging. Here is a link explaining on what will be covered: http://www.cmaresources.org/greenhouse/stories
That event will be facilitated by Neil Cole and Katie Driver. I see you are already Katie's friend on this site.
Maybe I'll see you there!

Perry Hansen said… Honestly, I'm not sure what you mean "church planting within the institutional church". Yes, I was born and raised in the ic, but have left it two years ago.
In regards to the Mpls Greenhouse, I have no issues whatsoever about that Greenhouse. This is put on by some awesome solid believers; they are great. Where I think this can help is if you are like me and been in the ic for numerous years, you really only know church a certain way. More often than not, your meetings together may end up turning into a smaller version of the ic. That is the risk if you don't seek out others who have been expressing Jesus this way for a number of years.
Does this answer your questions? Need more clarification? I can also get you in contact with the facilitator in Mpls, you would absolutely love her. We have never met, but have exchanged facebook chats and emails which has helped in my journey.

Perry Hansen said… Yeah, I can see how you got that. I personally don't like that name either. The question is...what is a church plant?
One thing Katie Driver said to me (one of the facilitator's in this Greenhouse event) was, "The adventure is in the journey, not the destination". Abraham was told to go, he was not told where, just go. He moved around a bit before he settled down.
So many times one thinks, if only we had a thriving house church in the area to settle down in. Yeah, that is great, but that is not necessarily the final destination. That may be part of it, yes, but chances are, it is not. I thought that for awhile, but that put me back in the the ic thinking; what I was most comfortable with. The early church would no idea what it meant to "go to church". They would have thought we lost our rocker. It would almost be like today we are saying that we are going to camaraderie...it just doesn't make sense. That is where I struggle with the term "church plant".
I'm sure this is more than a here is how you do it thing (planting a church). I can ask if you like. I would imagine it deals with relationships and how you cultivate those relationships in the framework of being the church.
