Good points, Melville. You also said "OK. “Go ye into all the world and make disciples of all nations”. So then how do we tell when a person has become a real disciple? Where is disciple-ship? You can’t look it up. You have to…

The issues around “discipleship” and “discipling” for me arise I think from two general things are linked together and that apply to other subjects as well. One aspect is about English and Greek grammar and the other, more…

I guess I view Yahshuah Jesus as not only the Teacher of the Law and the Prophets but also the Writer of the same. He said that His main Law was "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as…

In a sense, yes, but only partialy and in a negative sense, from my reading so far. When He spoke directly about the qualifications for being His disciple it was, “Unless a man hate . . .” various things, centrally his own soul/life, he…

Didn't Yahshuah Jesus define 'Disciple(ship)' when He instructed us to "make disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you" ?

Since I have no other way to reach them I post it here, leaving the names out.Dear * and **,Please forgive me for taking so long to reply to your kind invitation. The days have been getting away from me of late. I trust that after the holidays things will level off for me better.Did you meet with *? mostly about "Christianese"

Since I began on simplechurch something over a year ago I’ve had opportunity to discuss spiritual and biblical things with a number of people, here and in groups I’ve been invited to join by members or former members. This has been both enjoyable and challenging for me, to encounter ideas I have known about. There has also been exposure to terminology that has been new to me.Or maybe it’s not that it’s new but that the forum format causes me to think on what is being said, when terms I’ve heard…See More

"The Simplest of Simple Church"

The Simplest of Simple Church

There is something I don’t understand. Actually there is something very simple, very elemental that I think I somewhat understand, which is at the heart of things, and what I don’t get really is why other believers don’t seem to see it the same way. I think every system of biblical interpretation and every idea of “what’s it’s all about” anchors on some passage in scripture and develops whatever view of the big picture from there. For some the essential… Continue

"All Things in Christ"

Below is an article by T. Austin-Sparks that was written just before WWII that nevertheless seems timely even now, from http://austin-sparks.net/english/000006.html .

All Things in Christ

by T. Austin-Sparks

We take the Epistles and we think of them as having to do within the building of the Church and the churches, the superstructure of Christianity, and so we take the technique of the Acts and the Epistles as a technique, as a system of doctrine and a system… Continue

brother Melville,
Have you yet met (there in Spokane) Daryl & Dinah Floyd, or, Maurice & Gale Smith?

brother, I do appreciate the rare finding of faithful men in ekklesia. Most of the church in service today is physically present outside the western world (USA, Europe, Australia, etc.). So glad to hear that your wife served the Lord faithfully with your own heart! Spokane is a tough area, but, we shall see what Father will do. No limit to His ability in the storm.

While I am not posting much on here lately, I am reading a lot. I have found your posts to be level headed and very Christlike. Thanks for holding firm and conveying your thoughts in the way you do. Blessings

Melville, I am very curious! What are you holding in your hand in the photo posted on your page? It looks like an artist's palette... but not quite.. I agree with Miquel. Be blessed.

Thank you, Carolyn. It is an artist's palette. The picture was taken the day I signed the big mural in the lobby of he Davenport Tower Hotel. I'm also holding a paintbrush.
