Jacob Zarris commented on RacquelG's blog post Giving, Tithing, What?
"Wow this is a enjoyable topic:)! Actually this is something that I've been searching lately also Racquel, and I've noticed some runny things about it. If we look at tithe from the beginning we see that Abram gave 10% to Melkezadeck, not…"

Joe commented on RacquelG's blog post Giving, Tithing, What?
"God and the Tithe I struggle with the idea of giving to religious organizations. We have seen so much abuse. I don’t want to be naive. I don’t want giving to support brick and mortar. I feel compelled to help the needy and to further…"

Any Suggestions?

Okay, so my husband and I are still in the IC. We've been reading some books and went to a Greenhouse conference(http://cmaresources.org/greenhouse) a couple months ago along with other research and prayer about this whole simple church thing.

Well, over Thanksgiving one of my husband's cousins noticed one of the books we are reading (Organic Church by Neil Cole). He asked us several times over the weekend about it. The thing is, he is a fairly newly converted Catholic. He… Continue

Giving, Tithing, What?

My husband and I are still in the Institutional Church. Today, our pastor preached a sermon on giving. Boy, was it a doozy Here are some of the points that he made:

-Don't give if you're not going to give cheerfully (okay)

-If you don't "tithe" then it is like you are taking a bite of "the fruit" (referring to the fall in Genesis). Basically I guess he was saying if you don't give, then you are sinning (what!?!) And hey, isn't tithing a practice of the old covenant??… Continue

Sinners Prayer

While Reading the book of Acts the other day, I realized the people who were believing in Christ were getting baptized right away-immediately. It's like the two went hand in hand. Baptism was their first confession of faith. I want be clear that I am NOT implying salvation by baptism. What I really want to point out is that it seems that salvation and baptism were very closely linked. It's like you wouldn't think of one without the other. I wonder if the "sinners prayer" has now replaced… Continue

( REPENT ) and be baptized...seems that message is missing from the church these days, seems all you hear any more is just, " believe in Jesus and you will be saved, hummmmm, no wonder there is so much sin in the church, GET RID OF THE LEAVEN!!! because a little pollutes the whole batch :-) love you brother, thanks for sharing

My wife and I are living in Chicago - I lived in Abilene before this, just hadn't changed the profile info. You guys are north, right? What's life like where you're at?

Yes, we are over in Roselle, and we have a small community of people who are figuring out being Christ and the church.

That being said, if you are in a more established simple church, my wife and I would love to come worship with another group. We are planting a simple church when we have never been IN a simple church...

We'd love to have you guys show up at one of our meetings on Sunday night, and we get together during the week quite a few times too. I think we're about 20 minutes away over here... not to bad if you want to meet up with us. I must say that we are "figuring this out" ourselves, but we'd welcome fellow travelers!

My wife when I told her where you all were and stuff about you going through the same process as us said I should have invited you over for dinner, not invited you to Sunday meeting. I apologize, it was rude and very institutional of me. We are not even sure about what God is doing, and the motivations of the people we are "doing" church with. So, I think meeting them and us at the same time is probably weird anyway.

If you all have some time on a weekend, and want to come over for board games and dinner we'd love to meet you, break bread, and such with just us and you two. I mean bring kiddos too if you have them. We have 3 from age 7 to age 2 so our house is VERY kid friendly!

Anyway, drop of us a line if and when you get the urge!

God Bless you on your journey to more abundant fullness in Him!
