On 8/14/06 I made this note....
On the topic of forgiveness, I'd like to talk about why the standard is higher for us then for God. God only forgives after we repent and ask. We're expected to forgive immediately without…"
From time to time, I search SimpleChurch members for Mississippi (or for MS). You were the only new one from south Mississippi. I thought it might be helpful to share what I've learned. First there arn't many of us in south…"
I'm afraid that the neighboring kids situation is way out of my league.
For the house, the outside looks in good shape and it looks like there is crawl space. Most of my houses were on slabs. Two of them were in Michigan…"
"....any other suggestions?" My only thought is too hurry up with an invitation. Should I mention that I tend to be wrong? One of Murphy's laws goes something like.... when there is a 50-50 chance, you'll be…"
It seems that we've had some similar experiences. In the 90's, I had a 190? house in Wyandotte, MI. I'll try adding a picture, if this works, then in the picture it's changing from yellow to blue. I also had to…"
Last night, I reread your initial post. In it you wrote that.... My true desire is to simply have an intelligent conversation about my life, my experiences, my faith [love], and my sometimes lack thereof. It's nice having someone to…"
I wanted to follow thru on your comment about "a culture of no true responsibility" with an illustration that Steven Covey used in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I took the book off the shelf and started…"
Let me go back to your 3/13 post, where you said that "
I'm having to kinda re-invent Jesus in my own heart and life as I go". I'd like to pursue that thought.
After hurricane Katrina, I happened upon a small…"
"First, let me say that it sounds like your yankie friend might have asked.... Are you related to all of these people?
As to your questions, dying off dosen't sound like the answer. It seems to me that God has been known to just move on. God…"
Wow.....I blinked and a week flew by.....
First, on this Yankee thing, FYI.... My wife is from Biloxi, so we're in Biloxi, but I'm mostly a yankee from Detroit.
You wrote that "Everything I have ever been involved with…"
My limited experience has been mixed.
My 1st experience with a house church was with the "pastor" of one in Ocean Springs MS. Our IC was looking for a pastor and he submitted his resume. He ended up spending a year (2005) with…"
"In a comment on 10/23/11 Ryan said that.... "As much as I don't like the church 'system', it needs to exist". This was followed by another comment where Matthew speculated..... "What if just one person up and decided…"
"Last night, I was browsing a few discussions that had been of interest to me. In the English Bibles, your 10/23/11 comment resonated with me. I looked for your page mostly to see where you lived. Then I found your Toxic Saint discussion and read it.…"
"John, thanks for your quick response. I must say that I find "coincidences" interesting. It seems that Young may have put a little too much in side of the parentheses. Eusebius and Shem Tov both concur with Young on the 1st part but…"
"In Robert Young's literal translation of the Bible, a portion of the text of Matthew 28:19-20 is enclosed in parentheses. I assume that he had reason to believe that this was a later addition. Can someone comment on the basis for this?
"Thanks for the vote of confidence to join this new member in friendship and fellowship. I am often reluctant to share the accuracy of the text because it tends to step on the toes of those who harbor fuzzy concepts, learned the faith via hearsay, or…"
Glad to meet up with you here! I don't check in here too often, but I keep my account on purpose. Recently, I met up with the group in OS that we've spoken of before . . . there is a Facebook Group if you'd like some local chatter. There are close to 20 members, I think. Meanwhile, I bless you! :D
sounds very similar. I guess the reason I have not been on here in awhile because I tried to give the IC yet another shot. We visited other churches yet still either found the "deadness" of them or that their teachings were unbiblical. Its like the more I try to fight it, the more that the Lord has shown me that the simple church is where He wants us.
Right now there are just the 4 of us. My wife, my 2 teenage kids and I. Its tough to find others when we look for them. I think the Lord wants us to get to know Him on a personal level before He brings others to us.
I see that JaJireh mentioned a facebook group. That is something I'd be interested in. I do not use facebook at all (always been reluctant on that kind of stuff) but would be willing to participate. Have you tried it yet? If you have, how is it working out for you?
Keep listening to the Lord, He will guide us through all the deserts of life.
Thanks for the vote of confidence to join this new member in friendship and fellowship. I am often reluctant to share the accuracy of the text because it tends to step on the toes of those who harbor fuzzy concepts, learned the faith via hearsay, or who have little real understanding of scripture. To them, I seem diversionary or some kind of "strict doctrine harper" but without some accuracy, what do you have? Open doors for the adversary to corrupt the minds of the faithful, and leave them without answers and powerless.
So many Christians, especially the young, are spiritually anemic due to a lack of proper spiritual food: The Word of God.
I can really appreciate Wolgang Simson's statement in his essay,The Power of Nameless and Faceless People, where he says, "Stories and experiences are one thing; biblical, objective truth is another. Personally, I decided to remain tethered to the pole of biblical revelation with all my life, and rate and observe any experience, no matter how exciting, as secondary, judged and weighed by biblical truth. Might is not right - God is right"
