I like what you say here. Interesting thought about someone not familiar with Western culture picking up a Bible and how they would understand church. I've often thought so much of our church activity is not really found in the Bible. Funny how…

u>Joshua 1:8 Study this book of instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

2 Peter 1:3:By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a Godly life.

Acts 2:42: All the believers devoted themselves to the Apostles's teaching and to fellowship and to sharing in meals( including the Lord's supper and to prayer.

My heart is to be a part of an Christ centered Organic Church. Along the same lines as Frank Viola teaches in his book: Reimagining Church. Meeting under the headship of Jesus Christ. A fully functioning body where Jesus is central and allowed to be the head,(leader, authority, source) of the community. My desire is not to come up with a new theology. I believe in the basic core doctrines of Christianity. No need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to theology. As far as church life and experience a revolution is long overdue. join me here http://www.organicchurchtoday.com/

Some general info about me: Married with 3 kids Zeb 4, Mara 7 and Faith 10.

The Allegory of the Church Part 3

The Christians now set out to find others who shared the same heart to really know and follow Christ in community. This does not happen overnight. Many months pass before they finally connect with other believers to share this journey with. After awhile, with much difficulty a close knit community forms. Strong bonds…

Allegory of the Church Part 2

After a long hard process of trying to tell others in his church of his new found revelation, John and his family leave the church because no one understands him. They even accuse him of causing division and of being a heretic. After leaving religion behind John has mixed emotions. He is hurt yet feels a freedom unlike…

Is Jesus Allowed to Heal in Church?

The following is based on Luke 13:10-17

The leader of the synogogue says this after Jesus heals a crippled woman.

verse 14-"There are six days of the week for working,! he said to the crowd."Come on those days to be healed not on the Sabbath!"

My paraphrase: Don't you dare come to church to be healed!

Is this a common attitude among "church leaders" of today? Fall in line. Keep your mouth shut. Cooperate with what we're doing here. Don't you… Continue

Hi Ryan,

The only housechurch I am a part of is with my husband and kids. I've met several west Michigan people on this site but none desiring or close enough for regular fellowship with us.

The people you meet in church are in the paradigm, I am thinking, of the institutional church. They are "friends' in that equation. Also there is a lot of pressure for them to appear righteous. To be in the instirutional church is in many peoples minds thier qualification to be in the kingdom. They want to do everything just right so they don't mess that up then get home and take off the go to meeting clothes. Ah and that's a relief! And get back to thier real friends/

Indeed and well put . It is my hope that the "Pagan Christianity" Organic church movement is a genuine movement of God's people. I had been thinking along these lines for some time maybe fifteen years. It's as if the books ligitimises these thoughts. Like characters in the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind' Thanks for your comments. Your the first person to comment to me on Simple Church- Rod,Reston, VA,

Hey Ryan,
Your head is in the right place, and you have entered an old battle here at SC. Here is my blog from a while ago on the same topic as your most recent one. http://www.simplechurch.com/profiles/blogs/house-church-missional-or
If you look through the old threads, we've tried all kinds of arguements, but there is nothing new under the sun. It is all like spitting into the wind. The encouraging thing is that as I look back, I see that people have lost their hard edges and have become more grounded.
Blessings-

I was excited about the book(s) by Viola. I somehow thought other Christians would be. I don't really know how many have read him. I went to another meet up group and one of the people mentioned him. I guess it's easier to join or become involved with the institutional church then the organic church at this time. Maybe it takes more then 30 days, we'll see?
