Hi again Voloclavo, the real Greek food is rather different than the food you seem to get in Greek restaurants, certainly on this island the diet is quite basic. Friends of ours, a Belgian couple, ran a taberna and offered a range of classic Greek and Belgian dishes, but sadly, the Greeks only ever wanted a few basic items (lamb chops, calamari, octopus and salads), only the visitors during the summer wanted anything else. Meat of every kink is available quite cheaply and the meat is great as there is little or no fat on it, all fat is usually trimmed off. A quarter lamb cost us about twelve Euros (c$16) and two good size beefsteaks cost about four Euro (c$5.50) which would cost at least £9 (c$14.50) back in the UK. We were not sure what we could get here when we moved but we seem to be able to get most things if you know where to look.
The customs here are rather different though, both the secular and the spiritual, the Orthodox Church seems to owe as much to it's ancient polytheism than it does to Christianity and seems to have just canonised the old gods with Christian names. The Greek population seems to be fairly evenly split between those who work hard and those who are work-shy, the latter seem to look for any reason not to work. The bars seem to be full all day while the wives run around in circles managing the household. There is more information about the island and our transition on our blog-site:

The site was built specifically to let the folks back home know how we were doing, there are lots of pictures, which will give you an flavour of the island, please have a look.
Yours in Christ
Derek
