I don't how many here on Simple Church have been introduced to the ministry of John Eldredge, especially his little book,EPIC. My daughter introduced me to it several years ago when she had the opportunity to attend one of his conferences in Atlanta. He has a gift to see all the great Epic tales of the present and the past, Star Wars, The Lord of The Rings, as well as their film counterparts as once again crying out that there is within us all a sense that there is a master story that actually…

"Again, let us beware of interpreting these commands rabbinically, that is, in chief concern for the letter, to the missing of the Spirit. The cheek, the coat, the mile, the borrowing---- these are but the costume. Look within the costume for the body, or rather within the body for the Spirit. Having mastered the words as words, let us throw away our lexicons and grammars. For the letter, if alone kills; it is the Spirit within the letter which alone gives… Continue

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend.
As we go through life, we at times encounter places where our faith is stretched beyond its limits. These are the crossroads and crisis times where our trust in God’s ability to deliver us seems to be less than sufficient. These are the hours of desperation in which a person gropes for even the dimmest ray of hope to enter the picture.
Scripture gives us a picture of a father who was at this point. Mark chapter 9 describes the…

Yesterday I attended a gathering of leaders or simple churches in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. David Underwood of Keller Texas hosted the event. It was a chance to see a few people I love and meet a whole lot of other people I had never met before.
The Underwood's hospitality was wonderful and appreciated by everyone. Not only did they host the event, they provided for breakfast and lunch.
We had a wonderful time of worship followed by prayer time. Then after that there was…

Pleas for help — spiritual and financial — are flooding U.S. churches, from tiny congregations to megachurches, as recession woes seep into the pews, a new survey finds.
Pastors say they’re giving out benevolent funds in record numbers, increasing ministries to the unemployed and the… Continue

(Continued from Part 2)
LIVING IN THE REALITY
The Old Covenant was the shadow; the New Covenant is the reality (Col. 2:17; Heb. 10:1). There are external regulations that passed away with the Old Covenant, and now these things are internal, spiritual realities. For instance, the temple is no longer a man-made building, as the people of God are the temple (Acts 17:24; I Cor. 3:16). The Sabbath is no longer a literal day; rather, it is ceasing from our own works and entering…

OK, Oklahoma, too!
I am Michael Tummillo, a Workplace Chaplain. Yes, God is actually opening doors of ministry in the secular arena. I've been going into businesses - with management's blessing - for 3 years this September. Prior to that, I always seemed to serve the places I worked as their "unofficial" Workplace Chaplain. Your gifts really DO make room for you!
Not only has God sent me to help the hurting in the place where they spend 60-70% of their lives, but I am ALSO…

Well most of you probably know that I am new to this site. So far I am enjoying the fellowship among all of the other believers. For some time now, the Lord has been stirring in my heart to start an organic church in my hometown. Many people have already confirmed that they are excited and want to come but most are still bound by the traditions of men and the church insitutions rules and regulations. It's indeed a step of faith but I know it's something I have to do. All I ask for is your…

I recently finished reading
Dances With Wolves. Actually, it only took me three days to read the entire book since it was so fascinating. I had originally planned to donate my copy to the school library but I’ve decided to hold on to it since, in my opinion, it’s definitely a journey book that's worth re-reading.
As the story progresses, the…

I can't say that it has not been hard. I feel like my family and I were placed on a high shelf and left there alone. Its been over a year now since we left the traditional church setting to do house church. As a pastor there were many times a year that I would share the love of Christ with someone usually through my testimony and there were times that a person would accept Christ, be baptized and join our church. Those were exciting times, especially when you knew that someone made a REAL…

What do you do when everything you ever thought was changed in an instant? When seven years of devotion and dedication to study and training in the ministry is "rocked" by the power of revelation? When what you planned on doing after High School was quickly disrupted when blinded eyes were miraculously opened? Well.....that's where I live now; a place where I am learning all over again and having to take everything one day at a time. It's like being a house that not even at a moments notice was…

If you don't like the idea of Xmas, what about Xianity?
(
Col 1:14-18) Is your Christian life really about Him, or about glorifying yourself? Don't answer this right away. Let today be your Xmas Day. Let this be a question you carry with you as you go though the day. He will answer it.

Cars and trucks have a connection device between the motor and the wheels called a "transmission". This box of gears and belts in oil engages the wheels when a "clutch" is used to link the motor through a certain one of the gears. Low gears are used up to the full speed of the motor, then a higher gear is engaged and the motor speed is again increased until a balance is reached between desired vehicle speed and maximum or efficient motor speed. The super simplified version of the story…

in me in thanking God
Tomorrow, 28 March, will begin my second year of speaking into the wide world of blogging, and I am celebrating! I invite my new friends here on Simple Church to praise God for His faithfulness and to pray for me as I seek to be His faithful witness of our Lord and advocate for peace and unity which only comes in Him. I've been blessed by many I have met in the blogging world and lately here at Simple Church. Thank you Steve Cornell, an old friend, that…

cross posted from my blog www.intheway.missionaltribe.org
Last September my friends Adam and Diana Clay spent a weekend at a bed and breakfast in Fort Worth. As they talked the owners who are Christians found out that Adam is a church planter. They had purchased an old Church of Christ building and set it up as a wedding chapel (Lockhart Chapel).
They had been…

The Apostle' Paul’s expressions of pastoral love towards his many flocks are poignant. But these words of love are tragically lacking in the church today. We have fallen so far from the pinnacle of pastoral (shepherd’s) love that it is not even expected anymore.
I invite you to read and experience in the verses below what a true shepherd's love should be like:
Romans 1:9; “God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I…

The Simplest of Simple Church
There is something I don’t understand. Actually there is something very simple, very elemental that I think I somewhat understand, which is at the heart of things, and what I don’t get really is why other believers don’t seem to see it the same way. I think every system of biblical interpretation and every idea of “what’s it’s all about” anchors on some passage in scripture and develops whatever view of the big picture from there. For some the essential…
