SPIRITUAL - STOP STRIVING!

A few years ago we purchased a wet suit for my husband, Gary on Ebay. The day finally arrived when the long awaited package showed-up in the mail! Filled with anticipation, Gary ripped open the package and began to don his new purchase!

It didn’t take long to recognize that this highest bidder’s new treasure was too small! But… he can be kinda persistant sometimes. So… determining that “maybe it is supposed to be tight like this,” he insistently kept… Continue

A Seasoned Soldier

I learned a new word today: Dendrology. It is the “botanical study of trees and other woody plants.” You may use that the next time you play Trivial Pursuit. So, as an extrapolation of that word, a “Dendrologist” would be someone who studies trees, right?

Well, I am not one of those . . . however, something else I leaned about trees is that when a tree lives through, say a big storm, the winds threaten to tear it up from the roots; it sometimes breaks off… Continue

Stay Green!

lol, Stay Green. I bet you were thinking something might be going on with me, didn't you? Stay Green. "Oh no, Nickolas is turning into a tree hugger . . ." Nope, but in Revelation 9, the chapter on the locusts, verse 4 shows God’s command to the locusts not to destroy anything green. For some reason that caught my eye. So I used a concordance (wonderful invention, you know) and a thought leaped out at me.

I realized something that will make my environmentalist friends rejoice . . .… Continue

He Pleased God

In Genesis there is a brief mention of someone who had what I want for my own life. It is found in the 5th chapter, verse 24: "Enoch walked with God, and then he wasn't there, because God took him." Now granted, I'm not anxious for the last part of that, but I love the testimony of Enoch: He walked with God!

I love it. Enoch enjoyed a close, intimate fellowship with the Lord. In fact, his communion with God was so intimate, the Lord translated him to… Continue

A Friend of God

Have you ever thought about how your Heavenly Father feels about you? What His opinion is of you? Oops, that's a stupid question, we all do that on occasion. So let me rephrase that question . . . When you think about how your Father thinks of you, what is your answer? Hmmm, that requires a little more from you, doesn't it?

Well, consider the way God himself described his relationship with Abraham: "my good friend Abraham" (Isaiah 41:8). Ooh, not bad! Not just a… Continue

Elitism in Home Church?

So it's a good question. Truth be known the same problems we see in traditional church like strife, backbiting, bitterness and envy are problems entrenched in the heart of man everywhere. I recently had a discussion on facebook with a guy who does home church (haven't visited there yet) and the discussion emerged that in our area there is a real attitude of elitism.

I have read many times articles written by home church leaders who do not at all put down traditional church,…

A Vanishing God

Jesus often comes to us in unexpected ways and unexpected means.

Think about how He came to Earth. For centuries, Israel had waited for a political Messiah. They expected Him to lead a rebellion and free Israel from Roman oppression. But how did the Messiah make His entrance? He came in a way that made it easy for His own people to reject Him. He came as a frail baby, born in a feeding room for animals. There He was. The promised Messiah who was expected to overthrow the…

New Book Release: REVISE US AGAIN

I’m happy to announce that my new book REVISE US AGAIN: Living from a Renewed Christian Script is now available.

This book was born on the anvil of three decades of spiritual experiences, struggles, observations, suffering, failures, questions, reflections, and the insights that are born from each. As such, it contains both light and shade.

The book is unlike anything else I’ve written to date. And it’s the shortest as well (only 176 pages). It is written for…

Filled With The Spirit

"Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you-your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust. " --II Peter 1:3-4
For years I've claimed to be filled with the Spirit. I have testified that I've… Continue

Are you in a hopeless situation?

"The Lord has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continueto deliver us" (II Corinthians 1:10). Wow! (that's so good, I'll say it backwards: Wow!) What an incredible statement! Paul is saying, "The Spirit… Continue

One Path to The Throne

This may prove to be a continuation of my last note to you. You see, you can't weep your way into our Lord's heavenly place. You can't study or work or will your way in. No, the only way to the throne is by way of a living sacrifice: "I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." (Romans 12:1).

Paul is talking from experience. Here is a man who was rejected,… Continue

Surrendered Life

Jesus said, ". . . upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity . . . men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken" (Luke 21:25-26). Christ is warning us, "Without hope in me, multitudes of people are literally going to die of fright!"

For… Continue

God is in control...how easily I forget

On a journey to start home church, I now get the feeling that it's going to be sooner than we vaguely planned the start up date. Actually there is no date. Other than leaving our former church and knowing we were headed for this venture, it's pretty much baby steps forward.

Yesterday I found great resources right here in blog posts, discussions and the "getting started" section of the website, which my husband and I will investigate tonight. A few people from our old church…

A Great Awakening

What do I mean by a great awakening? I'm talking about what Paul describes as a revelation and enlightenment: "I always pray that you have a spirit of wisdom and revelation--of insight into mysteries and secrets and the deep and intimate knowledge of your Father, by having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints, and so that you can know and understand what… Continue

Ramblings from the heart - QT Intimacy

Zephaniah 3

17 The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.

My Father rejoices, He sings as an expression of His rejoicing.  I am sure He expresses Himself in other ways.  Another way He rejoices, He blesses, brags on His people in heavenly places in every spiritual…

Test Time...

Test Time...

Anytime someone mentions the word test in a biblical context I immediately think of the years I was a single mother, the time I almost yelled at my husband, reacted to someone's gossip, or wanted to swear very badly! But test to me now has a different buzz to it.

We are tested to test. I know it's poor alliteration but I'm… Continue

A Covenant of separation and being distinct - Part 1

A covenant of being separate and distinct

Gen 17:1-10 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him,"I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.

The Lord always unveils His plans to the righteous and the word of the Lord is communicated to Noah and of course certain members of family. We also know that Noah was found to be righteous in the sight of God if you read in Genesis 9…

Rational Hope

Have you ever wondered why the children of Israel didn't serve God with joy and gladness? Let me explain. Deuteronomy 28:47 says, "Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a glad heart . . ." and it goes on to describe the bondage that would befall the Hebrew people because of their hardened hearts. They saw plenty of signs, wonders, and miracles performed every day, so why weren't they filled with joy?

I think we could ask ourselves that same question! Some… Continue

Spiritual - WHO SETS THE RULES FOR YOUR LIFE?

My son Jake and his wife Jenn work very diligently to be consistent with the rules which they set for their three year old son, Dominic. I was blessed with an opportunity a few days ago to hear a precious conversation between Dominic and his mom, whom he was challenging about rules.

Jenn: “Dominic, you don’t make the rules! I’m the parent and parents make rules for their child.”

Dominic: “No, Dominic make rules!”

Jenn: “No,… Continue

Ramblings from the heart - Jesus a Servant

Phil 2:1-11

1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,

2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of…
