I remember a song from way back titled, "What You See, Is What You Get"! Much of the world lives in that reality, and has little hope beyond it. That type of reality does not demand any faith to see beyond current day happenings, and that reality is not what the Father has in mind for His family. With all that is going on around us, we are continuing to hear the fears of many, because of all the challenges they are…

Now This is An Evangelistic Booklet
When I was just getting started in my Biblical education, the Lord brought into my life J.I.Packer. I think the first book of his that I was required to read was , "
Fundamentalism and The Word of God", first published in 1958 when Packer was only 32. I soon learned to look for anything he wrote. I liked the way he wrote and I finally adopted him as a worthy theological guide to refer to often. A number of Theologian-pastors who are…

When I was growing up, my dad always made me think about my actions and what others would think of what I did (which was good for the most part). I can't remember if there was a certain phrase he used, or if it was just something I noticed over time, and I definitely began at some point to rebel against the idea of it (sorry, dad, because you were the brunt of most of that rebellion). And, I really wasn't a rebellious teenager. I didn't drink, didn't go to wild parties, and was overall a pretty…

Here is my first contribution to viralbloggers.com. This was a fun experience and I learned that much more about the HC mindset in the process. And for those wondering if being a viral blogger is a good idea - I think it is.
As the pastor of an institutional church I was looking forward to reviewing Neil Carter’s book Christ in Y’All – Following Jesus into Community. I have been investigating the house church mindset and culture for about 3 months now, and have come to expect a…

Although I didn’t fully understand why, I had been experiencing uneasiness regarding denominational labels prior to attending a Christian event where the speaker began the evening with asking for a show of hands from those representing various denominations; “How many Catholics are here tonight? Are there any Baptists? I bet we have some Presbyterians!” As the questioning continued, the repulsion to being compartmentalized by
any religious label increased. I hoped that

We are back from our vacation in CA and we had a very good time. It is always so nice to visit the family :) I have to admit that I was struggling with wanting to go and actually really didn’t want to… I don’t know why but I was sort of hoping we wouldn’t have the money but God made sure I went. By the time the trip was over, I knew I was supposed to be there. The first night of the reunion Paul, Tom’s youngest brother, played the DVD’s with pictures of…

Pentecost for me is just as important as 1) Celebrating the BIRTH of Christ, 2) The Crucifixion, the Resurrection, and the Ascension. Without Pentecost, the entire plan of the New Covenant would not have been "applied" to God's people. You can imagine then my grief over the years when I realized that many of the Churches in America didn't even observe the day. We will celebrate Memorial Day (the day before), but not Pentecost:What's wrong with this picture?
This year Pentecost falls…

I know you don’t read this e-letter to find out about our schedule, but let me explain what is happening at the moment, at least those things that I believe you will find interesting.
• I would like to link you to the most significant article that I have read in the past week. It is a summary written by a pastor who attended one of David Watson’s teaching sessions on Church Planting Movements. It covers effectively a lot of material that David presents, and raised some questions that…

Identity theft in the body of Christ
In the Beginning God created everything, and everything He made was good to His sight. Yet while God was pleased with His creation one of His very own Cherubim, a very beautiful angel named Lucifer wanted the Glory which radiated from God to shine off himself as his own beauty this was pride and the beginning of sin in the universe. So lets look at what caused Lucifer to sin.
When God made Lucifer, he was given an…

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend.
This weekend I had the opportunity to spend some time in the pool with my daughter. She is still in the process of learning how to swim and has become pretty proficient with a life jacket on. This weekend I determined that I needed to work with her on floating without a life jacket. I began by holding on to her hands and instructing her on how to lay out in the water, how to hold her breath and how to lift her head when she needed to…

This holiday weekend I enjoyed the company of my family and as I was meditating on the weekend I began to think about previous family gatherings. As a child I loved going to family reunions and seeing cousins I hadn't seen for years. As we all grew up, we would have the opportunity to show off our children and grandchildren as we would meet once a year and sometimes every couple of years.
These were always a time of sharing- sharing food, sharing experiences, sharing our lives with…

It is very interesting, and very eye opening at the same time, how we the human race strive for equality with God. It has showed its ugly head with our father Adam first and continues to do so presently. Matthew 19:21 Jesus had given a response to a young wealthy man who was displaying arrogance toward or because of his lifestyle. This really speaks volumes to me as I ponder the setting and the outcome. The man approaches Jesus in the 16th verse of the 19th chapter with a question it sounds as…
