The Principal of Judgment

I am sure you must have often heard that frequently quoted phrase; ‘You mustn’t judge!’  When questioned, people will quote the bible verse saying ‘Judge not, or you will be judged’.  Actually it does not say that, what is says is ‘be careful of your judgments, of how you judge, because the…

Making Peace With Our Maker!

I love to watch the old westerns. I always have. I remember ever Monday night my dad would take over the TV to watch “Gunsmoke, with James Arness as Matt Dillon” . . . Ah, those were the days. In those old westerns whenever someone was lying on the ground and dying from a gunshot wound, they would tell him, “Better make peace with your Maker . . .”

Now, knowing what I know, I can shout at the TV, “Peace has already been made! Call out to Jesus!” It’s true you know. Jesus… Continue

His Intercession

Previously, I talked about how each of us is in the office of a priest and perform a priest’s duties for our King. that is our part of ministering to our Lord, but what does Scripture mean when it says Jesus makes intercession for us, as in Hebrews 7:25?

“He is able also to save to the uttermost—completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity—those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene…

About Those Prophetic Words

We have been hearing all kinds of Prophetic warnings and urgent calls to prayer and the like, and I would like to explain the task of a true prophet. First, a Prophet’s word must be discerned as being true and accurate. Now that can be tough because usually the words are either vague or announcements of events that will come. I shared before that the Prophet warnings in the Old Testament took years, decades and even centuries to be fulfilled. So how are you going to discern the authenticity of… Continue

A Royal Priesthood

Please carefully read Ezekiel 44:15–16:

‘But the Levitical priests, who are descendants of Zadok and who guarded my sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from me, are to come near to minister before me; they are to stand before me to offer sacrifices of fat and blood, declares the Sovereign LORD. They alone are to enter my sanctuary; they alone are to come near my table to minister before me and serve me as guards” (Ezekiel 44:15–16)
The Hebrew name Zadok means… Continue

Yehoveh's Faithfulness

When I came to the Lord back in 1979, I sat under some of the best “faith” teachers available. I learned valuable lessons from them and although I don’t follow many of them anymore, the Lord has taken the foundation that was laid in my early days, and built what I feel confidant is a sturdy heart of faith.

One lesson I learned as I grew, is that my faith begins with a total abandonment of myself into my Father’s care, but my faith must be active, not… Continue

A Response to: NO WILL OF MY OWN

A few weeks ago, I submitted an article regarding Jon Zens’ recent book, "NO WILL OF MY OWN: How Patriarchy Smothers Female Dignity & Personhood". Although I wish that every Christian would read it, there are countless women who would be especially blessed by this book. I wish that I could put a copy in each of their hands!

It is my prayer that the Lord will use this heartfelt response from a sister regarding "NO WILL OF MY OWN" to encourage you to read it and to pass a copy on to…

Times of Prayer

TIMES OF PRAYER

We are always concerned about young people and the various issues that surround them. We are constantly dealing with the issues of teenage pregnancies, drug or alcohol abuse and other social problems.

We do the utmost to attract them to share in the love of Christ. We stage various events, the type of songs and music we play and of-course various youth activities. All these things are great but I always have a concern as what we will do…

My Father's Presence . . .

In Psalm 31, David introduces us to the phrase “the shelter of your presence.” Look at what King Jim tells us: “Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues” (Psalm 31:19-20).

I don’t know if you caught that, but the Psalmist is… Continue

What Do Ya Do?

Like many of you I have been listening to all the warnings; all the words of the Prophets and Preachers. We should instinctively know things are “afoot.” That’s okay. These things must happen, Jesus said, “Don't you realize that I am able right now to call to my Father, and twelve companies—more, if I want them—of fighting angels would be here, battle-ready? But if I did that, how would the Scriptures come true that say this is the way it has to be?" (Matthew 26:52-54). We are to listen… Continue

Responding to your search for a Home Church

Lisa,

I don't get into the SimpleChurch site much, but I just did and you were looking for a church in the area (last post in 2009...sorry for the delay).  We have had a home church in El Dorado Hills for over five years now.  Please come and see what we are doing.  All we ask is that you call first to ensure we are not having a regional event.  Our home church is in the process of spinning off more home churches in our area (two already, and one more soon).

If you…

Let His Peace Rule!

Here I sent you that message for Wilkerson and many of you (like me) listen to Glenn Beck and many of the TV preachers and they are all giving us these scary messages. So what are we supposed to do? Freak out and walk the streets of our cities carrying signs, “The End is Near”? Is that what we should do?

Well, in times of panic, God’s trusting people will be blessed with perfect peace. The Lord declares, “Start singing my praises. No matter where you are, I, the LORD, will… Continue

Translating Matthew 7:23

Roy,

Your question: "I've wondered if this could have been translated as "you never knew me"?"

The simple answer to the original question is: Absolutely Not.

Matthew 7:23

English translations compared:

ESV: Matthew 7:23. And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.

ASV: Matthew 7:23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

KJV: Matthew 7:23.…

Question about the women at the tomb, continued

Roy,

In translating the study verses from the Greek text (Westcot & Hort and Byzantine are identical in this passage) which I didn't do in the first essay, I find this:

Matthew 28 is possibly ambiguous due to the rendering and same word used in Matt 23:54 as you pointed out.

Matt 28:1 επιφωσκουση epiphṓskō <G2020> to begin to grow light:--begin to dawn, draw on.

Matt 23:54 παρασκευης epiphṓskō <G2020> to begin to grow light:--begin to dawn, draw… Continue

It never fails . . .

If you watch TV news or listen to talk radio or listen to many of the Christian TV programs, you have got to know “things are afoot,” in our world. Daily messages from Elijah List, give you even more evidence. To quote one of my favorite books: “Aslan is on the move . . .”

I reminded you a couple of days ago that the Prophets would give warnings and premonitions sometimes years in advance. Well times are moving… Continue

Thinking God's Thoughts

Where are your thoughts this morning? As disciples of Jesus, where should our thoughts be? The Message translates Colossians 3:1-2, this way:

"So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that's where the action is. See things from…

Met an organic church member.......

I just came from a secular conference and what are the chances of meeting someone who is involved with an organic church? Well, I did by happenstance meet someone who has been involved with house church at a young age. My interest in simple church has been renewed but I am still looking for one to be part of here in Middle Ga.

Conquering Distractions

You know something, as Christians we have a task, a purpose, for our lives—it's to live for God and reconcile men and women back to God. That is to be our tasks. "God has done it all! He sent Christ to make peace between himself and us, and he has given us the work of making peace between himself and others." (II Corinthians 5:18)

Let me ask you, how easily are you distracted from that purpose? We know that the devil does all he can to hinder us from this purpose. He distracts us by… Continue
