Simon, Immoral Woman, and Fullness
Ever pondered at length the story of Jesus dining with Simon the Pharisee? In the course of doing this over a number of days now several new insights began to surface. For example, have you ever wondered 'who really invited who'? How about 'what might have happened to the immoral woman before she went into Simon's house? And what does Simon's lack of hospitality have to do with the church?
If you're interested to read more there are several posts on my new found insights at…

You Do Have Hope
Over 120 people receive these messages in their email. Oh, some may not read them anymore, I understand that, but I do know a little bit about each of you. Some have walked with the Lord for years (some longer than I have), and some are new to the faith—and several somewhere in the middle.
One thing about us, for those who know Christ’s righteousness, also know that we are not to live as those who are without any hope. We are a different breed; we possess an “unction,” a…

Dots, Dashes and Dialogue
One of my favorite Rabbis, Rabbi Daniel Lapin, sent out his weekly message, and I wanted to share it with you:
During July, 2061 Halley’s Comet will return as it does approximately every seventy-five years. During its November, 1835 appearance the great American writer, Mark Twain, was born. Years later, Twain told friends that since he was born during Halley’s visit, it would be “the greatest disappointment in my life” if he didn’t die during its next appearance. It is no…Continue

Christian Counseling: In Search of Self-Control
Do you know well the deep peace that comes from exercising will power or self-control? There is a healthy sense of pride that comes from knowing that because we are in Christ we have the freedom from the bondage of sin and are, therefore, able to make righteous choices.
However, sooner or later everyone comes to realize will power is no savior, but is limited to being a necessary aid and helper in righteous living. We all know that in some areas of our lives self-control is…

My husband, Gary turned 65 in May. Needless to say, he is much older than I (wink)! Anyway… it seems that, when the bell tolls 65, insurance companies become quite interested in you. We’ve received more calls from insurance agents this May than we have throughout our entire marriage! While their primary concern is medical insurance, life insurance is usually offered also. Asking the caller if they would be willing to give him a few minutes of their time since…

Learning To Serve
Can you imagine a king or the president of a country humbling himself enough to serve you a cup of coffee or carry your groceries for you? He would want servants to perform those tasks for him. Do you think if you visited the home of a “rich and famous” person, you would find that they themselves had cleaned the house in preparation for your visit? I don’t think so! Yet Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, took on himself the form of a servant, and humbled himself for our sakes. Paul…

Learning From Our Physical Families
I want to talk about our “physical” families. I don’t discuss this much because I always try to focus on our “spiritual” family. But we can learn things about our physical family and see how they relate to our “spiritual family.”
Let me explain what I mean by asking you a question. If you are a parent, how do your natural children get to know you, your true character and your desire to love them? I have always believed that our children get to know our nature and character toward…

Whose Image are we building?
Gods design was to fashion us in "His" image. But generation after generation has tried to fashion Him into "ours"... We have made Him a Denominational Jesus, a Cultural Jesus, an American Jesus, a Red White & Blue Jesus...a Black...a White Jesus... we have made Him a Jesus that sometimes gives you sickness & disease...but yet, not to all. :(... We have created an American Santa Claus...Do good.. get good...do bad ..get coal...but if we would have "left Him…

He who has ears to hear
In Revelation (KJV), several times we see the phrase "he who has ears to hear, hear what the Spirit is saying." We are at a time that Believers everywhere hear what the National News is saying, what the economic and cultural times are saying, what their Pastors and other Christian Leaders are saying - but very few are listening to what the Spirit is saying. When I think about the old Charismatic days in the early eighties especially until the present - when we heard so much marvelous…

What Else Can We Learn in Chapter 14?
Since we have been in the 14th chapter of Exodus, let’s stay there just a little longer and see if there is more for us to look at. What I noticed is that what the Lord set before the Israelites was a path that would lead them to safety. Before, we were discussing how the Pharaoh was in hot pursuit, hoping to take the Israelites captive again. I know, I know. He was probably thinking, “Holy Moly, why did I let them trick me into letting them ‘go worship their God, Mo told me about…

Creating A Heart of Worship
My wife just graduated with a second degree, and is now officially a BSN! She will soon take the exam and become an RN . . . I am excited for her and proud of how hard she worked to earn this degree. However, it got me thinking of something. How many of us have trained and prepared ourselves for our current employment? Have you studied and earned a degree? Or, some of you are “self-made” and w/o any training have become successful in your own business?
The reason I am…

Context, Context, Context! (Part 3 of 3)
There are many contexts the Bible reader should consider in understanding what is written. These contexts include broader topics such as the common street definitions of the writer's vocabulary typical in their day (part 1), the cultural milieu of their city or area (part 2) and the the reason for writing the document in the first place. In this post we'll take up the last broad context.
The Fulcrum of History
Many theologians and historians have marked…

Identification and Zeal
I want to show you something, a principle, if you will, that too many modern-day churches have abandoned. What I am referring to is how our Father will indeed punish folks who profess to be believers, yet continue to do what is wrong. No, he will not leavethem for wrong behavior, but He will at times cause great harm on this earth as a consequence of their wrong behavior.
On the other hand, He willabandon those who claim to be His (and I will not debate whether they…

New Group Organizing
Wow, life is exciting, isn't it? We've just moved to the NE Dallas Metro area... on a small farm, South of Princeton, about 11 miles E. of Allen, TX. Very rural, which is just the way we like it. We love being able to have Allen and McKinney so close so that we don't have to go into Dallas unless we need to. We thought we would live in Dallas, but God decide to give us a place to have rest and peace instead, isn't that just like Him?
We moved to this area, 1st because my Son wanted to…

The Race
Near the end of Jesus ministry here on Earth, he provided some advice to his disciples:
"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish" (Luke 14:28-30).

Finding your Identity in Christ
Simba was the son of the King, the heir to the throne. He was living a carefree life, hakuna, matata, no worries. Until he realized he had a mandate to restore his father’s kingdom.
As believers if we wander around not knowing who we are, we won’t ever step into our Kingdom mandate. As sons and daughter of the…

Warfare
There seems to be an urgency in the Body of Christ these about people wanting to understand spiritual warfare. I think that maybe it because of the condition of America right now but that is a subject for another day. I have been searching a way to give a friend understanding of spiritual warfare in a way that makes sense. Yesterday while at a ministry leadership conference I heard something, we should all ponder on, this person said, “Warfare is occupational”. In other words he said that…
