How Committed Are You?

For some reason I keep going back to the third chapter of Daniel, to the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. I am sure you remember the story of the three guys who refused to bow down to the idol the king had made. Now, there could be several reasons I keep going back to this story. Either there is something I need to see . . . or something one of you needs to see.

Now I am not ashamed or above admitting there are messages in this story for me. I say “messages” (plural)… Continue

More Thoughts on Prayer (or A Life of Prayer pt 4)

As you know, I admire men of faith; men who are willing to do great things for our Father and are able to freely give Him the credit. Although, I wasn’t surprised to hear how some of the greatest men of faith . . . also dealt with some great failures and weaknesses. In fact, even some of the greatest examples of faith in the Churches history admitted to be dissatisfied in, for instance, their prayer lives! That is shocking!

Dietrich Bonhoeffer once admitted that he was ashamed of his… Continue

Hearing Is Believing

When you first came to Christ; when you first gave you allegiance to His rule and governance in your life, the Spirit of God came in and made you His temple. And, because the Holy Spirit knows the mind and voice of the Father, He speaks our Father’s thoughts to us. Remember John 16: “When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the Truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come” (John 16:13). See what I… Continue

You Gotta Do It . . .

I am taking another day out of Ravenhill's message because I sense that one of you on my list has recently been hurt by someone. Maybe they said something against you—it may have been down-right slanderous, but I have to warn you that we are told to, “leave room for God’s wrath” (Romans 12:19). What Paul was saying is that sometimes . . . okay, most of the time, we have to suffer the wrong. Lay it down and move on. Let it go . . . Don't insist on getting even; frankly, that is not an option for… Continue

My journey

What is amazing is that there is very little sharing of intimacy with Jesus, Father or Spirit.

What is usually talked about is what scripture says, communicates or teaches but little of heartfelt relationship as experienced in our daily lives.  It appears that we have relegated Jesus to positional truths rather than enjoying Him as an intimate friend.

If we talked about our children, spouse, or those we call companions in the same manner as we do Jesus, it would be questionable…

For Crying Out Loud!

Do you remember growing up and hearing the old adage, “Big boys don’t cry,”? I did. Then I heard a band called, “Extreme,” sing a song about it:

Whoever said that big boys don't cry You say you never shed a tear Well, listen that's a lie

We're all defenseless

When it comes to pain

I said boys and girls alike yeah,

We're all the same
Well, I’m one of those who said, “Phooey,” to that. No they don’t. They hold it in and live with it!! Oh,… Continue

Christian Counseling: Knowing God by Frank Mancuso, Ph.D.

Richard Cecil, an Anglican clergyman in the 1700's and 1800's, aptly said, "The first step to knowledge is to know that we are ignorant." I would add, "and that we remain more ignorant than knowledgeable throughout our lives, despite whatever knowledge we have acquired."  The wisest man on earth, besides Jesus (who was also God), was Solomon who admitted to his own limitations in Ecclesiastes 7:23-24: "I tested all this with wisdom, and I said, 'I will be wise,' but it was far from me. What has… Continue

COUNT IT ALL JOY!

This past summer was the first year for strawberries from our very own strawberry patch! Last year I pampered the new crowns with diligent weeding, manure tea application and water. I trained the vines to stay in their proper row and placed hay between each strip for weed control and easier picking. I was so excited when they began to produce blossoms, but…as directed, I painstakingly plucked each one of them! I’ve read that this makes for stronger plants and better production. While, at the… Continue

When He Comes!

I was reading the 3rd chapter of Daniel and I’m sure you remember the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The three Hebrews who were tossed into a furnace because they refused to bow to the idol the king created (Daniel 3:15–16). So I know you have heard the story, but have you really thought about?

They refused to bow and the king told them, “I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made . . . But if you refuse, you… Continue

Guidance and Leadership

I want to assure you, with the authority of the Creator’s Word, with absolutely confidence, you are not a failure! You are not a wienie! You are not a loser! I don’t care what you keep telling yourself, our Father wants you to surrender to the reign of the Holy Spirit. He will guide and strengthen you and provide all the confidence and wisdom you need.

According to Galatians 5:25, if we live by the Holy Spirit, we can also walk by the Spirit of God. If we… Continue

A Life of Prayer (pt 3)

When I was sharing that message from Ravenhill, I explained that his writings had truly impacted my walk of faith in the area of prayer. Oh, I am not an expert in prayer and I have no allusions that I am another "<em>Ravenhill</em>," or anything. Like I have shared, he was known to pray for 6 hours every day. Now whether that was completely accurate or not I don't know, sometimes claims like that tend to get exaggerated. I mean in my own life I am fortunate to pray 15 minutes a…

My Past & Leonard Ravenhill

I wanted to interrupt the Leonard Ravenhill message because I have something else on my heart. I began thinking about what ministries or ministers have had the most influence on my life. I can say without hesitation it was Leonard Ravenhill and A.W. Tozer. Their writings impacted me deeply.

In fact, when I came to the Lord back in 1979, Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin mostly influenced me. I could say that they “laid the foundation” of faith, and Ravenhill’s and Tozer’s writings… Continue

Weeping Between the Porch and the Altar (Leonard Ravenhill) (pt 7 of 12)

My phone rings constantly, "I'm going to move here, I'm going to move there. Do you know a church that really is on fire for God? A church where they have all night prayer meetings?" No church should function these days without a whole night prayer meeting. What do you want . . . social standing? Do you just want numbers of people? Do you want to fill the pews? Or do you want fire? I said last night, I think the greatest honor that was ever given to a preacher in history was not…

Weeping Between the Porch and the Altar (Leonard Ravenhill) (pt 6 of 12)

Weeping Between the Porch and The Altar Leonard Ravenhill (1907–1994)

I went to a little Bible school in England, there were only thirty five students, but I'm glad that the man who was the principal was a man of prayer - Samuel Chadwick who wrote the book "…

Weeping Between the Porch and the Altar (Leonard Ravenhill) (pt 5 of 12)

Weeping Between the Porch and The Altar Leonard Ravenhill (1907–1994)

Paul Koffman went to Nagaland, India, to see what happened and expected something like Finney. When he got there he saw all kinds of signs and wonders and miracles: cripples were healed, blind people were able to see, every distorted, perverted thing was put right. So what? Well, did you ever hear about a revival where the government began an…

Go For It! Show Your Ignorance!

One of my all time favorite T.V. programs is the comedy, Little Rascals! Based upon real life, the majority of the children were poor and the gang was often at odds with snobbish "rich kids" and overbearing adults. The Church can learn a great deal from the adventures that Our Gang faced and how Spanky and Friends responded to their “adversaries.”

Stymie was “a slick-tongued con-artist who was always self-assured, nonchalant, and ready with a sly comment as… Continue

How do I Figure Out God’s Will for My Life?!?

I hear Christians struggle with this question over and over. Is there a simple answer to it? Does God just give out His personal will for life to a chosen few? Is God a masochist? Does He get gratification seeing us suffer by dangling His will near us and then takes off so that we have to work…

me

Hello all, I am looking for a place that I can have some fellowship. I do not currently have a place were I can get this (i.e. a church). I would like a place were I can share and share bck. I am currently working in a place that Highly discourages any type of sharing. I am here because I asked the Lord 2 years ago for help when the economy started to go bad. My job at that time was in a serious time of decay, so it was in their best intrest to remove me. So, I needed work and this is where…

Weeping Between the Porch and the Altar (Leonard Ravenhill) (pt 3 of 12)

Weeping Between the Porch and The Altar (pt 3) Leonard Ravenhill (1907–1994)

We feel a little nervous these days of talking about human depravity. Well, heaven knows, there has never been as much depravity around as we have today. Look at the iniquity that was on the earth when the prophet Elijah came on the scene. The nation was in bondage to idolatry, and impurity, and infidelity, and indifference. It is my…
