A Simple Adventure In Irony?

With simple church, as a movement, appearing to many today as to be narrowing or fading into space on a bookshelf... Have been reflecting in prayer; hopeful the legacy of simple church (and organic church) to not become the fusion by-products in a larger set of new micro-denominations. Questions surface; people asking along the lines of why simple hasn't been simply more? Why simple church doesn't grow everywhere like a miracle grown plant!?

When I visit a movement-inspired…

"An Artisan" - My First Feature Film!

An Artisan is an independent feature film shooting this summer in Noble, OK.  It is the 5th script written by John Morrison (2011 Nicholl Quarterfinalist, 2011 International Filmmakers Screenwriting Competition Quarterfinalist, 2012 Austin Film Festival 2nd Rounder).  It comes out of personal experiences had by almost the entire cast.  We have most of the equipment needed to get the ball rolling, but we just need a little help to get us across the finish line.

Simple Failures?

What an awesome timeline slice we now live and work in!  While the nations rage and the pillars of long-established systems are crumbling, men everywhere being examined by God and His messengers for who is on the Lord's side?  It's a dynamic examination resulting in relatively fewer simple gatherings, and with disappointment among some who had hoped that simple church and smaller gatherings would become the next great wave of religious influence…

Mountain Community Simple Churches

Many people appreciate traditional Sunday morning church services. Great worship music, well-presented sermons, and tradition are faith bolstering and valuable experiences. However, you might long for more.  Simple church provides the participatory and intimate elements of the faith experience following the legacy of the earliest church and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Consider simple church, where priorities enable every-member-participation. Where…

Introducing Myself

Greetings,

Allow me to introduce myself.

I became a Christian as a child, being raised by Mennonite parents in farm country in North West Ohio, who thought themselves quite liberal to attend missionary churches instead of Mennonite. My parents had a great love for their faith and Scripture. Through them, I learned about God and Scripture. It was they who introduced me to a Bible teacher, as a teenager, whose specific thrust was to glean his beliefs and teachings from the…

Seeing A Simple Church Dream Come True

I am seeing a dream come true.  It is so exciting.

For 40 years, I've dreamed that a church meeting could operate without the programming, control, and/or direction of a human leader.  I've searched the country looking for such a church but couldn't find one.

I've also devoured church history looking for one.  I found two examples there.  Paul of Tarsus wrote in the New Testament that when Christians meet together that each one should participate in the…

Core competencies: Story telling

A couple of the core competencies that I mentioned in the last post have provoked some comment. So this post will look at the first of these: telling stories.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Austrian philosopher Ivan…

Becoming a commercial fisherman (part two)

Becoming a commercial fisherman

t may have been the salty yak milk tea, but I had a vivid dream one night when we were in Mongolia. In the dream, I was with a small group of people. I handed them a book saying, "This is a book on how to be a commercial fisherman."…

I like quotations...sorry :)

Our "home" church or "simple" church is only about 3 years old and I still feel like I am "detoxing" from the years of "traditional" church that I had been born into and raised up in. I was very skeptical at first with leaving the organized church body that I had been raised in...I felt as if I was divorcing them! But I also was experiencing such misery in the many "jobs" I was "encouraged" into performing. I had no joy. So after my brother and his wife left and…
