I think small groups are great. I think most of my learning and maturing as a believer happened in small groups. I can't speak for Frank V. but some pastors want to maintain a very strict control of what goes on in small groups (as if what is or isn't going on in the main meeting is more distinctive or spiritual in some way). I would suggest you also read the little book called "paul's idea of community" to understand where I'm coming from. The role of a pastor is noted in scripture but you will find it hard to justify the kind of authority we accord to pastor's today. Just some thoughts.
